Estamos de vuelta!!!

Espero que hayáis disfrutado mucho de las vacaciones de Semana Santa, yo vengo cargada de energías y os traigo un post sobre una de las paradas que más nos han gustado de nuestro viaje: Ronda! Una ciudad única que destaca por ubicarse sobre un desfiladero sobre el rio Guadalevín con unas vistas de infarto de sus gargantas.

Vengo enamorada de su centro histórico, con sus casas blancas y panorámicas pintorescas, su Puente Nuevo y sus rincones sombreados en los que alternar con la gente local siempre sonriente y deseosa de charlar con los visitantes.

Descubriendo Ronda

A pesar de estar a tan solo 100 Kms. de la ciudad de Málaga, nunca había tenido la oportunidad de conocer esta ciudad mítica del Sur de España. Sin dudarlo, decidimos coger el autobús de la compañía Damas que salía justo al lado de la estación de trenes María Zambrano y, por un billete de 10€ por trayecto/ persona y 1,45h de viaje, nos plantamos allí un día soleado con la expectativa de pasar un par de días.

Enclavada en una serranía, la ciudad se recorre fácilmente aunque de vez en cuando te anima a perderte por los recovecos de sus acantilados para poder captar su fotogenia desde diferentes perspectivas. Sus paisajes son únicos y combinan vestigios romanos con  barrancos y montañas pintadas de verde… tras verlos en persona no me extraña que cada año gane puestos como una de las ciudades más bonitas de Andalucía. 

Decidimos empezar por sus lugares más emblemáticos, y aquí os traemos nuestra ruta…

 

El Puente Nuevo

Es la imagen más icónica y característica de Ronda y cuando te asomas para verlo tiene una magia que te atrapa. Además, suele haber siempre músicos tocando en sus alrededores, haciendo que el momento sea muy especial e inolvidable… nos pareció la forma ideal para empezar a tomar contacto con la ciudad.

Este puente se termino en un total de 42 años de trabajo en el año 1793 y se construyó con el objetivo de unir la zona vieja con la zona nueva de la ciudad. Con sus casi 100 metros de altura, ofrece unas vistas importantes del Tajo de Ronda y cuenta con una serie de terrazas desde las que disfrutar del entorno mientras te tomas un café. Justo al lado del puente se encuentra el Parador de Ronda y un centro de interpretación donde aprender todo sobre el puente, sus características, su proceso de construcción y el entorno en el que se sitúa.

Las vistas desde el propio puente son impresionantes, pero si te aventuras a bajar por los diferentes caminos que parten de la zona alta de la ciudad podrás encontrar puntos desde donde hacer estupendas fotografías como la que os pongo aquí tomada justo desde el mirador de enfrente, en los caminos de los Jardines de Cuenca.

 

Los Jardines de Cuenca

Los caminos de los Jardines de Cuenca, subiendo y bajando sus pendientes y escaleras, recorren el abismo del Tajo de Ronda formando una especie de terrazas escalonadas que ofrecen unas vistas impagables de la ciudad. A medida que vas bajando, vas descubriendo mejor los recovecos Del Río Guadalevín. Son fáciles de recorrer y además conectan el centro de la ciudad con otras zonas emblemáticas como el Arco de Felipe V o Los Ocho Caños. 

 

La Plaza de Toros de Ronda

Inaugurada en el año 1785 con una corrida de toros en la que actuaron Pedro Romero y Pepe Illo, sigue siendo a día de hoy una de las plazas de toros más importantes, antiguas y monumentales de España. Cuenta con un ruedo de 66 metros de diámetro y destaca tanto por su doble galería de arcadas como por sus más de 130 columnas que forman un total de 68 arcos de columnas toscanas. Su construcción se atribuye al mismo arquitecto que ideó el Puente Nuevo, Martín de Aldehuela, y duró un total de seis años. En su interior alberga un museo sobre tauromaquia, una colección de armas de fuego antiguas y la Real Guarnicionería de la casa de Orleans.

 

Las murallas, puertas y baños árabes

Ronda fue una ciudad importante en la época musulmana y de aquellos años quedan todavía restos visibles que pueden visitarse como las murallas, las puertas de Almocábar, del Cristo y del Molino, los baños árabes o el Alminar de San Sebastián que perteneció a una antigua mezquita.

Si queréis captar una de las imágenes más codiciadas de Ronda: el Puente Viejo desde abajo, podéis aprovechar el camino hacia el Arco de Cristo o la Puerta de los Molinos, para ello el camino es coger la Calle Armiñán que atraviesa el casco viejo pasado el Puente, coger la Calle Tenorio que discurre paralela al Tajo, pasar por delante de la Casa de San Juan Bosco que se asoma al acantilado, llegar a la Plaza de María Auxiliadora, bordear su mirador y empezar a bajar la rampa hasta el Arco de Cristo o Puerta de los Molinos que en el pasado era el lugar por el que se accedía a la Medina. Desde aquí tendréis una de las mejores vistas de la ciudad!

 

La iglesia de Ronda

La Iglesia de Santa María la Mayor se construyó por orden de los Reyes Católicos sobre una antigua mezquita y esconde un coro de dos pisos en su interior. Se encuentra en una preciosa plaza llena de naranjos en la que también está el Ayuntamiento, y en ella encontramos uno de los mejores sitios para comer en Ronda… que os contaré un poco más adelante!

 

 

Callejeando por Ronda

Lo mejor de Ronda fue perderse entre sus calles y encontrar rincones encantadores escondidos. A veces parecía que se había detenido el tiempo y solo se escuchaba el sonido de la guitarra a lo lejos…

No olvidéis pasaros por la Calle Carrera Espinel, más conocida como la Calle de la Bola por una gran bola de nieve que hicieron unos niños tras una gran nevada y una de las mas concurridas de la ciudad, o por la Plaza del Socorro, toda peatonal y con un marcado estilo andaluz en la que además podréis hacer un alto en el camino en alguna de sus terrazas.

 

Comer en Ronda

 

Una de las cosas que teníamos claras era que no nos íbamos a ir de Ronda sin probar las famosas migas rondeñas… decidimos hacerlo en una pequeña casa de comidas llamada Carmen la de Ronda justo al lado de la iglesia… menudo descubrimiento!!! Nos gustó tanto que no pudimos dejar de repetir y no quisimos probar otro, os lo recomiendo del todo. Nos encantó todo lo que probamos, destacando además de las migas sus croquetas de puchero… y los precios super asequibles en comparación con lugares más turísticos del centro. Lo encontraréis en la Plaza Duquesa de Parcent, 10.

 

Comprar en Ronda

Siempre que visito un nuevo lugar que no conozco, me fio mucho en sus pequeños comercios locales y me encanta fisgonear en busca de tesoros! En este caso, el principal reclamo de Ronda (para mi gusto) es su gastronomía, y la ciudad estaba llena de tiendecitas de venta de aceite, vinos de la comarca de la Serranía de las Nieves o embutidos. Aunque hay de todo y muchas son bastante turísticas, adentrándote en la ciudad se pueden encontrar comercios mucho más humildes y con precios más económicos. Nosotros nos llevamos un aceite de la Almazara espectacular!!!

 

 

Alojamiento en Ronda

Terminamos el post con algunas recomendaciones para pasar la noche en esta bonita ciudad… aparte del Parador, Ronda ofrece sitios con muchísimo encanto como Salvatierra Guesthouse, a solo 300 metros de la Iglesia Santa María la Mayor, una casa rondeña totalmente restaurada en pleno centro histórico en la que el trato es super familiar y donde sirven desayunos caseros cada mañana. Tiene una piscina ideal para combatir el calor de la ciudad, y desde el balcón o la terraza de la habitación teníamos unas vistas impresionantes de las montañas. Su precio por noche es de unos 90-100€, con el desayuno incluido.

Si no hubiésemos encontrado disponibilidad en Salvatierra Guesthouse, nuestra alternativa era el Hotel Aire de Ronda, un alojamiento pequeñito y precioso de estilo boutique con un patio interior y jardín, con un precio algo más alto (unos 150€ la noche). Si volvemos a Ronda lo tendremos en cuenta seguro, así que también os lo dejo como opción.

 

La verdad es que un par de días se quedan muy cortos… Ronda invita a dejarse llevar y desconectar! Pero me alegro mucho de por fin haber conocido este impresionante lugar al que no tengo ninguna duda de que volveré pronto! Qué me decís? Os ha gustado tanto como a mí?

We’re back!!!

I hope you have really enjoyed the Easter holidays, I come full of energy and I bring you a post about one of the stops that we liked the most of our trip: Ronda! A unique city that stands out for being located on a gorge on the river Guadalevín with views of infarction of their throats.

I come in love with its historical center, with its picturesque white and panoramic houses, its New Bridge and its shaded corners in which to alternate with the local people always smiling and eager to chat with visitors.

Discovering Ronda

Despite being only 100 km from the city of Malaga, I had never had the opportunity to visit this mythical city in the South of Spain. Without hesitation, we decided to take the company bus Damas right next to the María Zambrano train station and, for a € 10 per person ticket and a 1.45 hour trip, we planted there on a sunny day with the expectation of spending a couple of days.

Nestled in a mountainous area, the city is easily covered, although from time to time it encourages you to lose yourself in the nooks and crannies of its cliffs in order to capture its photogenic image from different perspectives. Its landscapes are unique and combine Roman vestiges with ravines and mountains painted green … after seeing them in person, it does not surprise me that every year they gain positions as one of the most beautiful cities in Andalusia.

We decided to start with its most emblematic places, and here we bring you our route …

 

The New Bridge

It is the most iconic and characteristic image of Ronda and when you look out to see it has a magic that catches you. In addition, usually there are always musicians playing in their surroundings, making the moment very special and unforgettable … it seemed like the ideal way to begin to make contact with the city.

This bridge was completed in a total of 42 years of work in the year 1793 and was built with the aim of joining the old area with the new area of the city. With its almost 100 meters high, it offers important views of the Tajo de Ronda and has a series of terraces from which to enjoy the surroundings while you have a coffee. Right next to the bridge you’ll find the Parador de Ronda and the interpretation centre where to learn everything about the bridge, its characteristics, its construction process and the environment in which it is located.

The views from the bridge itself are impressive, but if you venture down the different paths that leave from the upper area of the city you can find points from where to make great photographs like the one I put here taken right from the viewpoint opposite, on the paths of the Jardines de Cuenca.

 

Jardines de Cuenca

The paths of the Jardines de Cuenca, going up and down its slopes and stairs, cross the abyss of the Tajo de Ronda forming a kind of terraced terraces that offer unparalleled views of the city. As you go down, you will discover better the recesses of the Guadalevín River. They are easy to travel and also connect the city center with other emblematic areas such as the Arco de Felipe V or Los Ocho Caños.

 

The Bullring of Ronda

Inaugurated in 1785 with a bullfight in which Pedro Romero and Pepe Illo performed, it is still one of the most important, ancient and monumental bullring in Spain. It has a ring of 66 meters in diameter and stands out both for its double gallery of arcades and for its more than 130 columns that form a total of 68 arches of Tuscan columns. Its construction is attributed to the same architect who devised the Puente Nuevo, Martín de Aldehuela, and lasted a total of six years. Inside it houses a museum about bullfighting, a collection of antique firearms and the Royal Saddlery of the House of Orleans.

 

Arab walls, doors and bathrooms

Ronda was an important city in the Muslim era and from those years there are still visible remains that can be visited as the walls, the doors of Almocábar, the Christ and the Mill, the Arab baths or the Minaret of San Sebastian that belonged to an old mosque .

If you want to capture one of the most coveted images of Ronda: the Old Bridge from below, you can take the road to the Arch of Christ or the Gate of the Mills, for this the road is to take the Armiñán Street that crosses the old town past the Bridge, take the Tenorio Street that runs parallel to the Tagus, pass in front of the House of San Juan Bosco that looks out over the cliff, reach the Plaza de María Auxiliadora, skirt its viewpoint and start down the ramp to the Arco de Cristo Door or the Mills Door that in the past was the place by which the Medina was accessed. From here you will have one of the best views of the city!

 

The Church of Ronda

The Church of Santa María la Mayor was built by order of the Catholic Monarchs on an old mosque and hides a two-story choir inside. It is located in a beautiful square full of orange trees in which there is also the Town Hall, and in it we find one of the best places to eat in Ronda … I will tell you a little later!

 

Strolling through Ronda

The best thing about Ronda was getting lost among its streets and finding hidden hidden corners. Sometimes it seemed that time had stopped and only the sound of the guitar was heard in the distance …

Do not forget to visit Carrera Espinel Street, better known as Calle de la Bola for a large snowball made by children after a heavy snowfall and one of the busiest in the city, or by the Plaza del Socorro, all pedestrian and with a marked Andalusian style where you can also make a stop on the road in one of its terraces.

 

 

Eating in Ronda

 

One of the things that we had clear was that we were not going to go to Ronda without trying the famous migas rondeñas … we decided to do it in a small house of meals called Carmen la de Ronda right next to the church … often discovery !!! We liked it so much that we could not stop repeating and we did not want to try another, I recommend it at all. We loved everything we tried, highlighting besides the migas their croquettes of stew … and the super affordable prices in comparison with more touristic places of the center. You will find it in the Plaza Duquesa de Parcent, 10.

 

Shopping in Ronda

Whenever I visit a new place I do not know, I trust a lot in their small local shops and I love snooping in search of treasures! In this case, the main claim of Ronda (for my taste) is its cuisine, and the city was full of small shops selling oil, wines from the Serrania de las Nieves region or sausages. Although there is everything and many are quite tourist, going into the city you can find much humbler shops and cheaper prices. We take an oil from the Almazara spectacular !!!

 

 

Accomodation in Ronda

We finish the post with some recommendations to spend the night in this beautiful city … apart from the Parador, Ronda offers sites with a lot of charm as Salvatierra Guesthouse,  only 300 meters from the Santa María la Mayor Church, a rondeña house completely restored in the historic center where the treatment is very familiar and where homemade breakfast is served every morning. It has an ideal pool to combat the heat of the city, and from the balcony or the terrace of the room we had stunning views of the mountains. Its price per night is about 90-100 €, with breakfast included.

If we had not found availability at Salvatierra Guesthouse, our alternative was Aire de Ronda Hotel,  a boutique style hotel with an interior patio and garden, with a slightly higher price (about € 150 a night). If we return to Ronda we will keep it in mind, so I leave it as an option too.

 

The truth is that a couple of days are very short … Ronda invites you to let go and disconnect! But I am very happy to finally have known this impressive place to which I have no doubt that I will be back soon! What do you say? Did you like it as much as I did?
