Lo prometido es deuda, y esta semana os traigo el review del hotel en el que nos alojamos en Otres Beach, el White Boutique Hotel & Residences. Como ya os contaba, fue uno de los motivos por los que nuestro viaje a la costa camboyana fue tan especial, y no podía dejar de contaros todos los detalles por si alguna vez decidís visitar la zona.
El hotel
Se trata de un hotel boutique en plena playa de Otres 2 bastante moderno y muy bien cuidado que ocupa el puesto nº8 de los 114 hoteles de Sihanoukville en Tripadvisor. Su propietaria, de origen ruso, de vez en cuando estaba atendiendo el bar y era bastante amable con los clientes.
El edificio principal está a un lado del camino principal de Otres 2, y justo al otro lado está la playa con el beach lounge. Se puede llegar a la ciudad en tuk tuk por unos 7$ (aunque el precio dependerá mucho de vuestra capacidad negociadora!), pero ya os digo que si os alojáis aquí no tendréis ninguna gana de moveros a Sihanoukville más allá que el día que necesitéis llegar al puerto para coger el ferry a Koh Rong y a Koh Rong Samloem.
Yo diría que se ubica en una zona bastante estratégica en la que justo enfrente encontraréis una pequeña tienda con todo lo que necesitéis: desde protector solar a comida, bebida, tarjetas de internet… y a ambos lados varios bares y restaurantes locales para tomar algo. Era bastante fácil aparcar por la zona, así que si vais en coche no tendréis demasiado problema.
El principal problema reside en que poco a poco los chinos están tomando Sihanoukville y sus alrededores… aunque el hotel era una especie de oasis en el que te aislabas de todo lo que pasaba fuera (ni siquiera escuchábamos el ruido de las obras), cuando te movías un poco empezabas a ver construcciones por todos los lados. El gobierno camboyano ha llegado a un acuerdo con China para crear desde cero una nueva ciudad y esto les está afectando bastante: de hecho hemos visto en la cuenta de Instagram del hotel que han tenido que cesar algunas actividades al aire libre ciertos días por las obras que les rodean e incluso a veces ofrecer un servicio de traslado a las islas cercanas para poder disfrutar de una manera más tranquila de las playas. Nosotros por suerte pudimos disfrutar de todo sin problemas, espero que pronto se liberen de todo aquello pero por lo que vamos siguiendo la gente del hotel se vuelca y se desvive porque afecte lo menos posible a sus clientes.
Las habitaciones
El hotel tiene un total de 19 habitaciones y suites, desde las más estándar (aunque nosotros nos alojamos en ésta y no nos pareció nada “estándar“) hasta las suites más grandes y especiales. Todas incluyen un desayuno MA-RA-VI-LLO-SO, room service, agua mineral, aire acondicionado, cafetera/ tetera, caja fuerte de seguridad y todo tipo de amenities en el baño. Uno de los detalles que más nos gustaron fueron los capazos de rafia con toallas para la playa en la habitación, además de útiles eran preciosos y daban ganas de llevárselos a casa!
Las habitaciones estándar
Como digo, nada estándar… son enoormes (unos 26m2), y el baño era una pasada. La cama tenía tamaño King size y todas las habitaciones de esta categoría tenían salida directa a la piscina.
Las habitaciones superiores
Son un poco más grandes (32m2) y algunas cuentan con terraza. Muchas estaban en la primera planta. La verdad es que estuvimos valorando este tipo de habitación y no nos arrepentimos nada de habernos quedado en la estándar.
Las suites: Junior, Honeymoon, Familiar, Residencial…
Tienen vistas a la piscina o al mar, tienen entre 60 y 77m2 y algunas de ellas como la Honeymoon hasta una bañera en la terraza asomada al océano. La suite familiar tiene dos habitaciones, por lo que es super cómoda para viajar con niños, la Junior Suite destaca sobre todo por tener balcón y las Suites Residenciales vienen equipadas hasta con vestidor y cocina.
Las habitaciones Deluxe con balcón
Mas que balcón, yo diría que tienen una terraza gigante. Son las habitaciones más grandes (116m2) y destacan por tener vistas al mar. Generalmente las vistas son algo que nosotros solemos contemplar, pero en este caso la verdad es que estando el mar cruzando el camino son un poco menos cercanas… otros alicientes para reservar esta habitación son su enorme jacuzzi cuadrado o el columpio de la terraza.
La playa
Más que en la habitación, nuestra vida transcurría casi siempre en la playa. Tanto por la mañana después de desayunar dando un paseo por la orilla, leyendo después tumbados en la tumbona o meciéndonos en el columpio que colgaba del árbol, comiendo o cenando en el beach lounge o en los chiringuitos, disfrutando de las actividades como la música en directo, las barbacoas o el cine… siempre estaba animada!
El agua era turquesa y cristalina, algo más agitada por la mañana pero a medida que iban pasando las horas del día se iba calmando y bajando la marea, llegando por la tarde y el atardecer a ser perfecta para darse un baño y disfrutar de los colores de la puesta de sol. La isla de enfrente y los longtail amarrados alrededor le daban una estampa exótica y de postal que no podíamos parar de fotografiar a todas horas… haciendo de este pequeño espacio un oasis perfecto en el que siempre te apetecía estar.
En la zona de la playa “moraba“ una familia de perros con tres cachorros preciosos que se habían adueñado del territorio… eran muy cariñosos y cada día hacían compañía a los clientes.
El hotel tenía un servicio de camareros y servía cenas y barbacoas en la playa. Había repartidas por la arena mesitas con sillones o pufs resguardadas del sol con cortinas y hasta un barquito de madera personalizado con su logo en el que te podías también sentar a tomar algo o ver la película que proyectaban por la noche.
Tenemos que destacar el servicio de Chris, un camarero super amable que además se animaba a practicar con nosotros su castellano que según nos contaba le recordaba sus orígenes filipinos y a cuando hablaba con su abuelo… Chris charlaba con nosotros entre cerveza y cerveza y siempre se encargaba de traernos cacahuetes para asegurarse que tomábamos nuestra “tapa“ correspondiente como buenos españoles! 😉
Una curiosidad: especialmente en la playa y al anochecer, había algún que otro mosquito en la playa y aunque nosotros llevábamos repelente nos recomendaron usar aceite de coco, muchísimo más efectivo! Parece ser que es tan denso que crea una capa en la piel que impide que te piquen… lo vendían tanto en la tiendecita de enfrente del hotel como en la recepción, donde por cierto también vendían cosas bastante chulas como pañuelos de seda local o bolsos de rafia natural, echadles un vistazo!
Duo Restaurant & Bar
Cada mañana, el DESAYUNO – si, si, con mayúsculas – se servía tanto en el interior del Duo Restaurant & Bar como en la zona de la piscina desde las 7:30 a.m. hasta las 11 a.m. Puede que fuese el momento más deseado del día… una mesa de Buffet preciosa llena de mermeladas y yoghurt caseros, frutas tropicales, café Camboyano, bollería, tostadas… se complementaba con una carta en la que podías elegir cada día entre unos huevos Benedict maravillosos, una tortilla gigante con verduras, noodles, sandwiches, crepes, tortitas, arroz, French toasts… y todo acompañado con un delicioso smoothie de fruta hecho al momento (si vais os enamoraréis del de mango)
El sitio era precioso y muy acogedor, con sus mesas de madera, sus cojines de colores, su particular cuadro con pájaros tropicales… y tras el desayuno actuaba como bar para tomar cocktails y cervezas y como restaurante para comer o para cenar, abriendo ininterrumpidamente desde las 12 hasta las 23h.
Duo Restaurant & Bar es uno de los mejores restaurantes de la zona, en el que se sirve comida camboyana fusionada con sabores y platos más occidentales. Son bastante populares sus hamburguesas, el marisco, el salmón… sus precios eran altos comparados con la oferta local de los alrededores, pero para un momento un poco más especial es perfecto. Si buscáis un momento más romántico, el hotel ofrece el pack “Love is all you need“, en el que preparan una cena para dos a la luz de las velas en la playa con un entrante y un plato principal para cada uno, dos copas de vino y “una sorpresa especial del chef“ por 50$.
La piscina
Abierta de 9 de la mañana a 9 de la noche, la piscina era uno de los elementos que más destaca y más personalidad da al hotel…el cuarzo mezclado con piedra de andesita natural no solo influía en que tuviese un diseño único y super bonito sino que además por lo visto ayudaba a que el agua fuese todavía más relajante y saludable: según nos contaron aportaban propiedades como el rejuvenecimiento de la piel, el fortalecimiento de las uñas o del pelo o incluso inmunitarias!! Aunque nos faltaban horas en el día para disfrutarla, siempre intentábamos aprovechar y darnos algún que otro chapuzón.
Los servicios y actividades
Una de las cosas que más nos gustó del hotel era que siempre había alguna actividad: cada día de la semana montaban alguna cosa bien en el restaurante o bien en la zona de la playa para que a los clientes nunca nos faltasen planes por hacer.
Entre todas ellas, la que más nos apetecía era la de ver pelis antiguas en la playa: todos los Martes y Jueves organizaban el outdoor cinema, ponían una gran pantalla y un proyector y podías tirarte en pufs sobre la arena para ver películas en inglés acompañadas de sus palomitas… con el sonido del mar de fondo, era una pasada!
Todos los días (menos los Jueves) había clases de yoga al atardecer, algo que esperábamos siempre con muchísimas ganas… era la manera perfecta de dejar atrás un día de playa, revitalizarse, hacer estiramientos y terminar con una ducha calentita para empezar a disfrutar de la noche y de los chiringuitos de alrededor.
Cada dos por tres montaban barbacoas en la playa: un plan super divertido en el que disfrutar de carne, marisco o pescado a la brasa… perfecto para variar un poco de la comida Khmer y china de alrededor.
Los Miércoles y Sábados había conciertos de música en directo, donde algún músico local amenizaba las veladas.
Había un gimnasio bastante completo (en el que se estaba genial porque casi nunca había nadie) y un servicio de masajes… aunque desde nuestro punto de vista para disfrutar de un masaje especial os recomendaríamos dároslo justo en la playa, en el sitio de masajes con camillas cubiertas que hay nada más salir de la zona de la playa del hotel a la izquierda.
Y, finalmente, el hotel ponía a disposición de los clientes desde excursiones en ferry a Koh Rong y Koh Rong Samloem hasta visitas turísticas (a Sihanoukville viendo Golden Lions, el área de Victory Hill o el parque Monkey Forest Independence, a las granjas de pimienta, al mercado de cangrejos de Kep, al primer casino de Camboya, Kampot, al Parque Nacional Bokor…) y transfers tanto a la ciudad o al puerto como a los aeropuertos de Phnom Penh o Sihanoukville. Nosotros reservamos con ellos tanto el transfer al puerto para ir a las islas (que incluía los billetes de ferry) como los traslados desde el aeropuerto de Phnom Penh (65$) y hacia el aeropuerto de Sihanoukville (25$).
Los alrededores
Para terminar, debo decir que esta zona de Sihanoukville es mucho menos agitada y “fiestera“ que otras playas como Serendipity o Ochheuteal. Hay unos cuantos restaurantes locales y sitios para tomar algún que otro cocktail o cerveza, a nosotros esto nos gustó bastante porque nuestro plan era sobre todo relax y playa. Os dejo aquí el post anterior donde os hablo de nuestros chiringuitos y restaurantes preferidos, así como excursiones a las islas cercanas. Si buscáis algo más de marcha, tan solo hay que coger un tuk tuk y en pocos minutos estaréis en plena movida… pero si queréis mantener la tranquilidad de Otres, existe otra playa en Sihanoukville llamada Sokha Beach (la playa del hotel Sokha Beach Resort) donde también se puede pasar un día de relax.
Después de todo este despliegue, solo falta un dato: el precio. Aunque depende mucho de la temporada y del lugar desde el que lo reservéis, este hotel no es uno de los más baratos. Haciendo la reserva por medio de su web suelen tener descuentos y extras, pero nosotros encontramos un buen chollo en Agoda, en el que la noche en una habitación estándar con desayuno nos salía por unos 90$. Eso si, super bien invertidos! 🙂

As promised, this week I bring you the review of the hotel we stayed in Otres Beach, the White Boutique Hotel & Residences. It was one of the reasons why our trip to the Cambodian coast was so special, and I couldn’t stop telling you all the details in case you ever decided to visit the area.
The hotel
This is a boutique hotel on the beach of Otres 2, quite modern and very well maintained, which occupies the position # 8 of the 114 hotels of Sihanoukville on Tripadvisor.
Its owner, of Russian origin, from time to time was serving the bar and was quite friendly with customers.
The main building is on one side of the main road of Otres 2, and right on the other side is the beach with the beach lounge. You can get to the city in tuk tuk for about $ 7 (although the price will depend a lot on your negotiating capacity!), But I already tell you that if you stay here you will not have any desire to move to Sihanoukville beyond the day you need Get to the port to catch the ferry to Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem.
I would say that it is located in a quite strategic area where right in front you will find a small shop with everything you need: from sunscreen to food, drink, internet cards … and on both sides several bars and local restaurants to have a drink . It was quite easy to park around the area, so if you go by car you will not have much trouble.
The main problem is that little by little the Chinese are taking Sihanoukville and its surroundings … although the hotel was a kind of oasis in which you isolated yourself from everything that happened outside (we didn’t even hear the noise of the works), when you moved a little you started to see buildings on all sides. The Cambodian government has reached an agreement with China to create a new city from scratch and this is affecting them a lot: in fact we have seen on the hotel’s Instagram account that some outdoor activities have had to cease on certain days due to the works that surround them and sometimes even offer a shuttle service to the nearby islands to be able to enjoy the beaches in a quieter way. Luckily we could enjoy everything without problems, I hope that soon they will be released from all that but for what we are following the people of the hotel overturns and goes out of their way because it affects their clients as little as possible.
The rooms
The hotel has a total of 19 rooms, suites and residences, from the most standard (although we stayed in this one and we didn’t find anything “standard”) to the larger and special suites. All include an A-MA-ZING breakfast, room service, mineral water, air conditioning, coffee / tea making facilities, safety deposit box and all kinds of bathroom amenities. One of the details that we liked the most were the raffia baskets with towels for the beach in the room, besides useful they were beautiful and made you want to take them home!
Standard rooms
As I say, nothing standard … they are soooo big (about 26m2), and the bathroom was amazing. The bed was King size and all rooms in this category had direct access to the pool.
Superior rooms
They are a little bigger (32m2) and some have a terrace. Many were on the first floor. The truth is that we were evaluating this type of room and we regret nothing of having stayed in the standard.
Suites: Junior, Honeymoon, Family, Residential…
They overlook the pool or the sea, have between 60 and 77m2 and some of them like the Honeymoon to a bathtub on the terrace overlooking the ocean. The family suite has two rooms, so it is super comfortable for traveling with children, the Junior Suite stands out above all for having a balcony and the Residential Suites are equipped with a dressing room and kitchen.
Deluxe Grand Balcony rooms
More than a balcony, I would say they have a giant terrace. They are the largest rooms (116m2) and stand out for having sea views. Generally the views are something that we usually contemplate, but in this case the truth is that being the sea crossing the road are a little less close … other incentives to book this room are its huge square jacuzzi or the terrace swing.
The beach
Our life in Otres was almost always on the beach. Both in the morning after breakfast taking a walk along the shore, reading later lying on the sunbed or rocking on the swing that hung from the tree, eating or dining in the beach lounge or in the beach bars, enjoying activities such as music in direct, barbecues or movies … was always lively!
The water was turquoise and crystalline, somewhat more agitated in the morning but as the hours of the day went by it calmed down and lowered the tide, arriving in the afternoon and the sunset to be perfect to take a bath and enjoy the colors of the sunset. The island opposite and the longtails moored around gave him an exotic print and postcard that we could not stop photographing at all hours … making this small space a perfect oasis in which you always wanted to be.
A family of dogs with three beautiful puppies that had taken possession of the beach area… they were very affectionate and every day they kept company with the customers.
The hotel had a waiter service and served dinner and barbecues on the beach. There were small tables with armchairs or poufs sheltered from the sun with curtains and even a small wooden boat with its logo on which you could also sit down to have a drink or watch the movie they projected at night.
We have to highlight the service of Chris, a super friendly waiter who also was encouraged to practice with us his Spanish that he told us reminded him of his Filipino origins already when he spoke with his grandfather … Chris chatted with us between beer and beer and always He was in charge of bringing us peanuts to make sure we took our corresponding “tapa” as good Spaniards! 😉
A curiosity: especially on the beach and at dusk, there were some mosquitoes on the beach and although we had repellent they recommended us to use coconut oil, much more effective! It seems to be so dense that it creates a layer on the skin that prevents you from being bitten … they sold it both in the little store in front of the hotel and at the reception, where by the way they also sold pretty cool things like local silk scarves or Natural raffia bags, check them out!
Duo Restaurant & Bar
Every morning, the BREAKFAST – in capital letters – was served both inside the Duo Restaurant & Bar and in the pool area from 7:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. It might have been the most desired moment of the day … a beautiful Buffet table full of homemade jams and yoghurt, tropical fruits, Cambodian coffee, pastries, toast … it was complemented by a menu in which you could choose each day between wonderful eggs Benedict, a giant tortilla with vegetables, noodles, sandwiches, crepes, pancakes, rice, French toasts … all accompanied with a delicious fruit smoothie (I felt in love with mango smoothie)
The place was beautiful and cozy with its wooden tables, its colorful cushions, its particular picture with tropical birds … and after breakfast it acted as a bar for cocktails and beers and as a restaurant for lunch or dinner, opening continuously from 12 to 23h.
Duo Restaurant & Bar is one of the best restaurants in the area, where Cambodian food merged with flavors and more western dishes is served. Their hamburgers, seafood, salmon are quite popular … their prices were high compared to the local offer of the surroundings, but for a little more special moment it is perfect. If you are looking for a more romantic moment, the hotel offers the “Love is all you need” pack, in which they prepare a dinner for two by candlelight on the beach with an starter and a main course for each, two drinks of wine and «a special surprise from the chef» for $ 50.
The pool
Open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., the pool was one of the elements that highlights the most personality and gives the hotel … built with quartz mixed with natural andesite stone did not only influence that it had a unique and super design beautiful but also apparently helped to make the water even more relaxing and healthy: as they told us they provided properties such as skin rejuvenation, strengthening of nails or hair or even immune! Although we lacked hours in the day to enjoy it, we always tried to take advantage and take a dip.
Services and activities
One of the things we liked most about this hotel was that there was always something going on: every day of the week they rode something well in the restaurant or in the beach area so that customers never lacked plans to do.
Among all of them, the one we most wanted was to watch old movies on the beach: every Tuesday and Thursday they organized the outdoor cinema, put a big screen and a projector and you could throw yourself in poufs on the sand to watch movies in English accompanied of its popcorn … with the sound of the sea in the background, it was amazing!
Every day (except Thursdays) there were yoga classes at sunset, something we always looked forward to … was the perfect way to leave a day at the beach, revitalize, stretch and end up with a warm shower to start enjoy the night and the beach bars around.
They usually do barbecues on the beach: a super fun plan in which to enjoy meat, seafood or grilled fish … perfect to vary a bit of Khmer and Chinese food around.
On Wednesdays and Saturdays there were live music concerts, where some local musician entertained the evenings.
There was a complete gym (it was great because there was hardly anyone) and a massage service … although from our point of view to enjoy a special massage we would recommend giving it to you right on the beach, on the site of Massages with covered stretchers that there is just leaving the beach area of the hotel on the left.
And finally, the hotel arranged ferry excursions to Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem, tours (to Sihanoukville watching Golden Lions, Victory Hill area or Monkey Forest Independence Park, to pepper farms , to the Kep crabs market, to the first casino in Cambodia, Kampot, to the Bokor National Park …) and transfers both to the city or the port and to the airports of Phnom Penh or Sihanoukville. We booked with them both the transfer to the port to go to the islands (which included ferry tickets) and transfers from Phnom Penh airport ($ 65) and to Sihanoukville airport ($ 25).
Hotel surroundings
Finally, I must say that this area of Sihanoukville is much less hectic and “partying” than other beaches such as Serendipity or Ochheuteal. There are a few local restaurants and places to have occasional cocktails or beer, we liked this a lot because our plan was mostly relax and beach. I leave here the previous post where I talk about our favorite bars and restaurants, as well as excursions to the nearby islands. If you are looking for a little more walking, you just have to take a tuk tuk and in a few minutes you will be in full movement … but if you want to maintain the tranquility of Otres, there is another beach in Sihanoukville called Sokha Beach (the beach of Sokha Beach Resort) where you can also spend a relaxing day.
After all this deployment, only one piece of information is missing: the price. Although it depends a lot on the season and the place from which you book it, this hotel is not one of the cheapest. In their website they usually have discounts and extras, but we found a good bargain at Agoda, in which the night in a standard room with breakfast came out for about $ 90. Of course, super well invested! 🙂
