Desde que soy freelance reconozco que he perdido muchas rutinas que antes marcaba la vida de oficina, una de ellas la de quedar después de una estresante jornada a tomar algo con los compañeros para liberar un poco de tensión y volver como nuevo a casa, lo que los modernos llaman hoy afterwork. Madrid es una ciudad ideal para practicarlo: ofrece mil alternativas para todos los gustos y con propuestas muy interesantes tanto por concepto como por ambiente. Hoy os traigo las que más me gustan: algunas sugerentes, algunas divertidas, algunas clásicas, otras más secretas o alternativas… pero todas perfectas para liberar tensiones!

 

Mis afterwork preferidos en Madrid

 

1. Para conversar:  The Hat, Calle Imperial 9

Además de ser uno de los hostales más chulos de la capital, The Hat tiene una azotea preciosa y acogedora en la que sentirse más que a gusto al salir del trabajo. Su decoración, el poder disfrutar de los característicos tejados de Madrid y la cúpula de una parroquia próxima al edificio son ingredientes extra a un ambiente relajado, informal y distendido para cuando necesitas un afterwork para charlar cómoda y tranquilamente con tus compis en pleno centro (se encuentra bastante cerca de la Plaza Mayor). Entre semana, está abierto desde las 18h hasta las 24h y ofrece tanto copas, cocktails, vinos o cervezas como tapeo a buenos precios, y lo mejor es que se puede disfrutar tanto con buen tiempo como sin él, ya que cuenta con un invernadero de cristal en el que resguardarse del frío.

2. Distendido y animado: El Viajero, Plaza de la Cebada 11

¿Qué decir de este lugar mítico del barrio de La Latina? Sus tres plantas siempre abarrotadas son perfectas para dejar el estrés del día atrás y pasar un rato animado mientras se disfruta de una caña, se picotea algo o se prueban sus clásicos mojitos al ritmo de la música. Bullicioso, vivo y desenfadado, este sitio sigue siendo uno de los más elegidos por los madrileños y guarda en su plata alta una terraza perfecta para los días calurosos (eso sí, muy solicitada) con vistas a la Iglesia de San Francisco.

 

3. Con vistas a la puesta de sol: Picalagartos Sky-Bar, Gran Vía 21

En el número 21 de la Gran Vía madrileña, haciendo esquina con la calle Montera, la azotea del Hotel NH Collection es el punto más alto de toda la Gran Vía y cuenta con unas vistas panorámicas de los alrededores, puesta de sol sobre Callao incluida con el edificio de Telefónica y el Capitol alrededor. Es bastante grande y abierta, y además de una barra alta cuenta con diferentes zonas de sofás y mesas bajas rodeadas de plantas, ideales para relajarse y tomar algo a la salida del trabajo como alguno de sus cocteles como el Tiki cocktail con ron, zumo de piña y papaya, sirope de tamarindo y clavo o el Producto Español con ginebra, oloroso, licor de almendra y angostura. Algunos Martes, existen combos afterwork que combinan una primera parada en Picalagartos para disfrutar del skyline de la capital y posteriormente un espectáculo de Madrid Comedy Club en El Intruso.

 

4. Chic y sofisticado: Barbara Ann, Calle Santa Teresa 8

Muy cerca de la Plaza de Santa Bárbara, este local estiloso y con muchísima personalidad  es uno de los lugares más atractivos para la salida del trabajo. Decoración oscura, con iluminación indirecta una barra espectacular y fotografías de los grandes mitos de la música se acompañan de buena música, buenos cocteles y combinados. Los cocteles van tienen un precio medio de unos 7-9€ y entre mis preferidos están el “Little Habana“ con ron, café, licor de almendra y cola o el “Smoke“ con ginebra, zumo de pomelo y mezcal. Abre a las 17:30h.

 

5. Versátil y polivalente: Casa Mono, Calle Tutor 37

Un gran local lleno de pequeños y acogedores rinconcitos de estética neoyorquina y una carta enorme de combinados hace que Casa Mono sea uno de los lugares más frecuentados y punto de encuentro para el afterwork madrileño. Me gusta mucho su combinación de espacios abiertos y cerrados, más fresquitos y más abrigados, para poder elegir el mejor ambiente en función del día o de la época del año, y su concepto “todo en uno“ que vale para todo: desde una comida improvisada, una cena mas formal, el tapeo, la merienda, las cañas, el café… y todo ello en una calle tranquila justo al lado del metro de Argüelles.

 

6. En la zona de moda y con sótano clandestino: La Contraseña, Calle Ponzano 6

La calle Ponzano está cada vez más en auge y muchos nuevos bares, cafés y restaurantes abren en la zona dandole un toque moderno y contemporáneo. Hasta se ha creado su propio término, #ponzaning, para denominar este movimiento, en el que también destaca una amplia oferta afterwork: cañas, vinos, tapas, copas… donde lo viejo y tradicional se combina con lo cosmopolita y chic. La Contraseña, en el número 6, es uno de los sitios de referencia tras un día duro de trabajo por su ambiente y decoración, su Gin Club, sus tapas y raciones y la música que de vez en cuando pinchan sus DJs. En su sótano tiene un bar clandestino, El Escondido, disponible para cenas privadas de grupo donde los camareros solo entran cuando se les llama.

Since I am a freelancer I recognize that I have lost many routines that once marked the office life, one of which is to stay after a stressful day to take something with colleagues to release some tension and return as new home, which the moderns call today afterwork. Madrid is an ideal city to practice it: it offers a thousand alternatives for all tastes and with very interesting proposals both for concept and for ambience. Today I bring you the ones I like the most: some suggestive, some funny, some classic, others more secret or alternative … but all perfect to release tensions!

 

My favorite afterwork places in Madrid

 

1. Ideal to chat:  The Hat, Imperial street 9

In addition to being one of the coolest hostels in the capital, The Hat has a beautiful and cozy rooftop in which to feel more than comfortable when leaving work. Its decoration, the power to enjoy the characteristic roofs of Madrid and the dome of a parish next to the building are extra ingredients to a relaxed, informal and relaxed atmosphere for when you need an afterwork to chat comfortably and quietly with your compis in the center ( it is quite close to the Plaza Mayor). During the week, it is open from 6 pm until midnight and offers drinks, cocktails, wines or beers as well as tapas at good prices, and the best thing is that you can enjoy both good weather and without it, as it has a greenhouse glass in which to shelter from the cold.

2. Detached and animated: El Viajero, Cebada Square 11

What about this mythical place in the neighborhood of La Latina? Its three always crowded plants are perfect to leave the stress of the day behind and have a lively time while enjoying a cane, peck something or try their classic mojitos to the rhythm of the music. Bustling, alive and carefree, this place is still one of the most chosen by the locals and keeps in its high silver a perfect terrace for hot days (yes, much in demand) with views of the Church of San Francisco.

 

3. Overlooking the sunset: Picalagartos Sky-Bar, Gran Via street 21

At number 21 of the Gran Vía in Madrid, on the corner of Calle Montera, the rooftop of the NH Collection Hotel is the highest point of the entire Gran Vía and has panoramic views of the surroundings, sunset over Callao included with the Telefonica building and the Capitol around. It is quite large and open, and in addition to a high bar has different areas of sofas and low tables surrounded by plants, ideal to relax and have a drink after work as one of their cocktails such as Tiki cocktail with rum, juice pineapple and papaya, tamarind syrup and clove or the Spanish product with gin, fragrant, almond liqueur and angostura. Some Tuesdays, there are afterwork combos that combine a first stop in Picalagartos to enjoy the skyline of the capital and later a show of Madrid Comedy Club in El Intruso.

 

4. Chic and sophisticated: Barbara Ann, Santa Teresa street 8

Very close to Santa Bárbara Square, this stylish place with a lot of personality is one of the most attractive places for work. Dark decoration, with indirect lighting a spectacular bar and photographs of the great myths of the music are accompanied by good music, good cocktails and combined. The cocktails go have an average price of about 7-9 € and among my favorites are the «Little Havana» with rum, coffee, almond liqueur and cola or the «Smoke» with gin, grapefruit juice and mezcal. It opens at 5:30 p.m.

 

5. Versatile and polyvalent: Casa Mono, Tutor street 37

A great place full of small and cozy little squares, New York aesthetics and a huge drinks menu makes Casa Mono one of the most frequented places and meeting point for the afterwork in Madrid. I really like their combination of open and closed spaces, cooler and more sheltered, to be able to choose the best environment depending on the day or time of year, and its «all in one» concept that applies to everything: from a meal improvised, a more formal dinner, the tapas, the snack, the canes, the coffee … and all this in a quiet street right next to the Argüelles metro.

 

6. In a fashionable area and with a clandestine basement: La Contraseña, Ponzano street 6

Ponzano Street is increasingly booming and many new bars, cafes and restaurants open in the area giving it a modern and contemporary touch. Until it has created its own term, #ponzaning, to name this movement, which also highlights a wide afterwork offer: canes, wines, tapas, drinks … where the old and traditional is combined with the cosmopolitan and chic. La Contraseña, at number 6, is one of the reference sites after a hard day of work for its atmosphere and decoration, its Gin Club, its tapas and rations and the music that DJs play from time to time. In his basement he has a clandestine bar, El Escondido, available for private group dinners where waiters only enter when they are called.
