Buen primer Lunes de Octubre!

Retomamos nuestros habituales post “are you…?“, esta vez para los más independientes y alternativos, bohemios… o hipsters, que es el nombre de moda actualmente. En realidad, esto no es cosa de ahora, sino que se arrastra desde finales de los 40 cuando se empezó a crear un movimiento de música jazz, escritores y versos que huían de los cánones de la cultura blanca y terminaron originando una subcultura.

Ya en estos días, lo encontramos actividades como el Día del Orgullo Hipster cada 21 de Julio en Berlín en el que se lanzan gafas estilo Wayfarer o se realizan maratones de vinilo, en cafés vintage, en los brunchs de fin de semana, en las barbas pobladas, las mochilas Kanken Fjallraven o en el resurgimiento de los barrios obreros e industriales reconvertidos en los barrios de moda más trendy de la gran ciudad.

Williamsburg, Nueva York

Williamsburg, “el nuevo Soho“, es un barrio reconvertido de NY en el que hoy en día se concentran galerías de arte y vida bohemia. Gracias a que los alquileres de Manhattan eran prohibitivos para los bohemios y artistas de la ciudad, este barrio empezó a ser la alternativa para ellos. Pronto empezaron a transformar el vecindario con grafittis, salas de arte donde exponer sus obras, lugares para dar conciertos de música alternativa y un estilo propio en el que se fusionaba lo industrial con lo moderno. En la actualidad está lleno de cafés ecológicos, delis, mercadillos, tiendas de segunda mano, bicis, clubs de jazz y galerías. Suelo seguir a una conocida blogger llamada Jacqueline Mikuta, vecina de este barrio, y una de las cosas que más me gusta de él son sus edificios y viviendas: prueba de ello es la casa en la que vive, que simplemente me parece la casa ideal, y que muestra en unas fotos alucinantes en su cuenta de Instagram:

Bites en Williamsburg: pasaros por el mercadillo de fin de semana Artists & Fleas situado en una nave industrial de North 7th St.  o por la Feria de comidas y productos agrícolas Smogasburg de los Sábados, tomad una cerveza en la emblemática Brooklyn Brewery, haced un picnic disfrutando de las mejores vistas de Manhattan en el East River, visitad los segundos Viernes de cada mes las galerías de arte (están abiertas hasta más tarde y suelen tener eventos, fiestas e inauguraciones), o tomad un brunch en el Cafe Colette. 

Copenhague está siempre en continuo movimiento, y prueba de ello es Vesterbro, un barrio underground situado cerca de la estación de trenes conocida por sus fábricas y que en el pasado era uno de los más deprimidos de la ciudad. Hoy combina algunos de sus rasgos del pasado e incluso hoteles con historia, con modernos estudios de arquitectura, tiendas de diseñadores independientes y locales trendy camuflados en naves industriales y fábricas.

Bites en Vesterbro: para amantes de la comida orgánica es indispensable BioMio Organic Bistro (BOB), contemplad las huellas del pasado en el Chicky Grill, visitad el Designer Zoo (parte galería, parte tienda) para adentraros en la visión creativa de los artistas de la ciudad, alojaos en el Central Hotel (el “hotel más pequeño del Mundo“ del que os hablaba en The One) o salid de marcha por el KB3.

Södermalm, Estocolmo

Si sois fans de Stieg Larson, os sonará este lugar de sus novelas: es el barrio en el que viven muchos de sus principales personajes. Un lugar plagado de vintage, diseño escandinavo y muchos museos, que puede llegar a temperaturas de hasta veinte grados bajo cero.

Bites en Södermalm: dedicad una tarde a la librería independiente Konst-ig, y deleitaros con sus publicaciones sobre diseño gráfico, moda, arte…, dar una vuelta por el So-fo, la zona de alrededor de Nytorget, o Plaza Nueva, visitando el cercano Urban Deli. Practicad una de las costumbres más habituales del barrio: el fikapaus o el “descanso del café“, y no os vayáis sin echar un vistazo por el  Södra Skattkammaren, o la versión escandinava de un bazar chino pero con productos de gran calidad y con diseño propio.

 

Fitzroy concentra lo que puede que sean los edificios más bonitos de Melbourne y celebra cada año el famoso Festival indie Fringe, y se la conoce como el centro ecléctico bohemio de la ciudad. Un lugar colorido por la abundancia de arte urbano de sus calles, con una gran animación y bullicio continuo en sus calles debido a la gran cantidad de bares y cafés que concentra.

Bites en Fitzroy: son imperdibles el Centro de Fotografía Contemporánea,  la peculiar tienda Third Drawer Down, dar una vuelta por el Rose Street Artists Market en Rose St., admirar las paredes de obras de arte del Rose Parking, o descubrir alguno de los tostaderos de café artesanal del barrio. Para comer, el vegetariano Vegie Bar, y en en la terraza del Bimbo Deluxe, podréis terminar el día tomando una copa en un ambiente más que animado.

 

Florentin, Tel Aviv

Y terminamos con un lugar fascinante donde todo se fusiona: puestos de comida callejera, graffittis, edificios industriales y hasta fiestas en la playa conviven con grandes complejos residenciales y boutiques, todo ello en un barrio multicultural y colorista en plena efervescencia. Tanto es así, que han creado varios blog para ilustrar esta explosión de modernidad del barrio como el DIY Telaviv Blog , en el que se publican todas las novedades, eventos y actividades a realizar en la zona.

Bites en Florentin: uno de los bares alternativos de moda es el Hoodna, con música en directo, o el Bugsy, que conviven con otros establecimientos de toda la vida. Para tomar el auténtico hummus de Tel Aviv visitad el Beit Lechem, y para adquirir especias, el mercado Shuk Haaliyah. Si después de todo esto necesitáis reponer fuerzas, en el Hahultziym 3 disfrutaréis desde un queso parmesano-reggiano hasta pitas de cerdo rostido o pan hebreo relleno.

Good first Monday of October!

We return to our usual post «are you …?», This time for the most independent and alternative, bohemian … or hipsters, which is the current fashion name. Actually, this is not a thing of the past, but it has dragged on since the late 1940s when it began to create a movement of jazz music, writers and verses that fled the canons of white culture and ended up creating a subculture.

Already these days, we find activities such as Hipster Pride Day every July 21 in Berlin where Wayfarer style eyewear are launched or vinyl marathons, vintage cafes, weekend brunchs, beards Kanken Fjallraven backpacks or in the resurgence of the working and industrial districts reconverted in the most trendy districts of the big city.

Williamsburg, New York

Williamsburg, «the new Soho,» is a converted neighborhood of NY in which today art galleries and bohemian life are concentrated. Because Manhattan rentals were prohibitive for bohemians and city artists, this neighborhood became the alternative for them. Soon they began to transform the neighborhood with graffiti, art rooms where to expose their works, places to give concerts of alternative music and a style of their own in which the industrial and the modern merged. At present it is full of ecological cafes, delis, markets, second-hand shops, bikes, jazz clubs and galleries. I often follow a well-known blogger named Jacqueline Mikuta, neighbor of this neighborhood, and one of the things I like most about him is his buildings and homes: proof of this is the house he lives in, which simply seems to me the ideal house , And that shows in some amazing photos in her Instagram account:

Williamsburg’s Bites:  stop by the weekend market Artists & Fleas located in an industrial building on North 7th St. or by the Food and Agricultural Products Fair Smogasburg of Saturdays, have a beer in the emblematic Brooklyn Brewery, take a picnic with the best views of Manhattan on the East River, visit the second Friday of every month the art galleries (they are open until later and usually have events, parties and openings), or have a brunch at the Cafe Colette. 

Copenhagen is always in constant movement, and proof of this is Vesterbro, an underground neighborhood located near the railway station known for its factories and in the past was one of the most depressed in the city. Today combines some of its features of the past and even hotels with history, modern architectural studies, independent designer shops and trendy premises camouflaged in industrial buildings and factories.

Vesterbro’s Bites: for lovers of organic food is indispensable BioMio Organic Bistro (BOB), contemplate the traces of the past in the Chicky Grill, visit Designer Zoo (half gallery, half shop) to enter into the creative vision of the artists of the city, stay in the Central Hotel  (“The smallest hotel in the World“ of which I spoke in The One) or go out by the KB3.

Södermalm, Stockholm

If you are fans of Stieg Larson, you will hear this place of his novels: it is the neighborhood where many of its main characters live. A place plagued by vintage, Scandinavian design and many museums, it can reach temperatures of up to twenty degrees below zero.

Södermalm’s Bites: dedicate an afternoon to the independent bookstore Konst-ig, and delight you with your publications on graphic design, fashion, art …, go around the So-fo, the area around Nytorget, visiting the nearby Urban Deli. Practice one of the most common habits of the neighborhood: the fikapaus or the «coffee break», and do not go without a look for the Södra Skattkammaren, or the Scandinavian version of a Chinese bazaar but with products of great quality and with its own design.

 

Fitzroy, Melbourne

Fitzroy concentrates what may be the most beautiful buildings in Melbourne and celebrates each year the famous Fringe Indie Festival, and is known as the bohemian eclectic center of the city. A colorful place for the abundance of urban art of its streets, with a great animation and continuous bustle in its streets due to the large number of bars and cafes that it concentrates.

Fitzroy’s Bites: are essential the Contemporary Photography Center, the peculiar shop Third Drawer Down, take a walk around Rose Street Artists Market at Rose St., admire the artwork walls of the Rose Parking, or discover some of the neighborhood’s artisan coffee toasters. To eat, the vegetarian Vegie Bar, and on the terrace of the Bimbo Deluxe, you can finish the day having a drink in a more than lively atmosphere.

 

Florentin, Tel Aviv

And we end up with a fascinating place where everything fuses: food stalls, graffittis, industrial buildings and even beach parties coexist with large residential complexes and boutiques, all in a multicultural and colorful neighborhood in full effervescence. So much so, that have created several blog to illustrate this explosion of modernity of the neighborhood as the DIY Telaviv Blog , in which all the news, events and activities to be carried out in the area are published.

Florentin’s Bites: one of the trendy alternative bars is the Hoodna, with live music, or the Bugsy, which coexist with other establishments throughout life. To take the authentic hummus of Tel Aviv visit the Beit Lechem, and to acquire spices, the market Shuk Haaliyah. If after all this you need to replenish forces, in Hahultziym 3 you will enjoy from Parmesan-reggiano cheese to pitas of pork or stuffed Hebrew bread.
