Feliz Lunes, trippers! Comenzamos nueva semana con espíritu aventurero, no sé qué me pasa pero tras venir de India me apetece cada vez más vivir experiencias distintas y buscar contrastes… tanto que me estoy replanteando mi lista de destinos para este año! (La verdad es que hay veces que los propósitos de año pueden durar poco… jejeje) 

El caso es que SÉ que todos (sí, todos…aunque pueda parecer que no) tenemos un lado salvaje, instintivo y racial, que a veces aparece por sorpresa y que aporta un poquito de emoción a la vida. Y como el Mundo es tan increíble y diverso, también nos ofrece destinos apasionantes para dar rienda suelta a esta faceta y disfrutar de una manera más extrema de viajar: en pleno contacto con la naturaleza, con un punto de adrenalina, a veces llevándonos al límite, y siempre retadora. No os parece apasionante?

Así que…

En busca de la Aurora Boreal, Groenlandia

Uno de mis grandes sueños es presenciar la Aurora Boreal pasando la noche en una tienda de un campamento. Debe ser un espectáculo natural impresionante e inolvidable. Groenlandia es, junto a Alaska y Canadá, uno de los mejores lugares desde donde contemplar estas luces que aparecen en el cielo al amanecer o en la puesta de sol en latitudes polares. El Sur de Groenlandia es conocido por tener la mayor frecuencia e intensidad de tormentas solares y dicen que es el mejor lugar para observarlas. Y no sólo cuenta con este gran atractivo, sino que también es un enclave ideal para navegar por los fiordos entre los icebergs azulados (que me alucinan!) y junto a espectaculares lenguas glaciares. Un viaje perfecto para espíritus aventureros más allá de la frontera con el Ártico, con sus paisajes de hielo y verde intenso.

Alojamiento: Aquí lo propio es dormir en un campamento, los hay ubicados en lugares impresionantes como frente a los glaciares, para poder hacer un trekking sobre hielo o caminar recorriendo la tundra, los valles glaciares y las granjas inuit. El Campamento Glaciar Fletanes se monta cada año desde cero y es el centro de operaciones ideal para conocer la zona, sus tiendas-domo dormitorios cuentan con literas y el baño y la ducha comunitarios se encuentran cercanos a ellas. Está en medio de la nada, sin electricidad ni agua caliente… sólo para los valientes.

Acampar en las Montañas Rocosas, Canadá

Esta cordillera rocosa situada al oeste de Canadá es un auténtico santuario de vida salvaje a unos 800 kms. de Vancouver. En ella se encuentran cuatro parques nacionales Patrimonio de la Humanidad (para acceder a ellos deberéis comprar un pase), y en aproximadamente una semana se pueden recorrer sus principales puntos de interés (hay rutas en coche, bici.. y también tiene su propio tren, el Rocky Mountaineer). En el extremo Norte de las Montañas Rocosas está el Parque Nacional de Jasper, y en el extremo Sur el Parque Nacional de Banff, cercano al Parque Nacional de Yoho y al Parque Nacional de Kootenay.  Jasper es una de las localidades más bonitas, pero también es pequeña y cuenta con una oferta de alojamiento limitada, por lo que es importante reservar con antelación para poder disfrutar de unos paisajes maravillosos, del Lago Maligne o el Lago Medicine, o visitar el Centro de Información del Parque de Jasper, el parque nacional más grande de las montañas rocosas de Canadá, salvaje en todos los sentidos de la palabra. La sorprendente agua de aciano azul del río Athabasca corre a través de este tramo desierto en el extremo occidental de Alberto, tallando un camino entre cañones escarpados para exploradores, excursionistas y fotógrafos.

Alojamiento: aunque en este enclave maravilloso lo propio es llevar nuestra propia tienda de campaña y dormir bajo las estrellas rodeados de las gigantes montañas, existen alojamientos de lujo como el  Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge , en pleno lago Beauvert, en el que disfrutar de manera mucho más cómoda de las vistas en una de las mejores ubicaciones (unos 150€ la noche)

Safari en la Sabana Africana, Tanzania

Tanzania es uno de los paraísos naturales mejor conservados de la tierra y un destino perfecto para los amantes de la vida salvaje. En Tanzania se mantiene toda la esencia de la sabana africana, con el Kilimanjaro -la montaña más alta de África- , y el Parque Nacional del Serengeti, que posee la concentración más alta de animales del mundo en cantidad y variedad. El parque garantiza el safari perfecto gracias a «La Gran Migración», uno de los mayores espectáculos de naturaleza salvaje del planeta en el que más de un millón y medio de ñus y varios miles de otros herbívoros, como cebras y gacelas, se desplazan casi mil kilómetros en busca de pastos frescos y abrevaderos estables, sin duda un espectáculo único en el Mundo. Así que, si buscáis la imagen perfecta de un safari, éste es vuestro lugar: leones, guepardos y leopardos, jirafas, elefantes, rinocerontes… y todo en un paisaje idílico con montículos de granito sobre el suelo de la llanura.

Alojamiento: el Mbalageti Serengeti Lodge se encuentra enmedio del Parque Nacional, en la zona de Banaji, y una excelente relación calidad-precio. En sus instalaciones campan a sus anchas los elefantes y las cebras, y desde su piscina se tienen unas vistas impresionantes de la sabana. El hotel ofrece tiendas-chalets muy confortables con unas terrazas privadas ideales para tomar algo al atardecer, y además organiza safaris para entrar en contacto directo con la fauna de los alrededores. Una experiencia inolvidable (200€ aprox. la noche)

Una travesía en barco por el Amazonas

Una travesía en barco por el río Amazonas, en el corazón de América del Sur,  es el sueño de casi cualquier viajero. Pero no todos están preparados para este lugar inhóspito, prácticamente aislado por tierra, sólo apto para los más atrevidos. La experiencia puede que sea una de las más aventureras y auténticas, a bordo de barcos que, en ocasiones, apenas cuentan con un enchufe. También existen cruceros, mucho mejor acondicionados y también mucho más caros, en los que supongo que la vivencia es completamente distinta. Los grandes alicientes: disfrutar de los más increíbles amaneceres y puestas de sol, y de las vistas impresionantes de las márgenes de los ríos y brazos el Amazonas. Un viaje diferente, una experiencia directa y aislada con la naturaleza. Existen diferentes rutas e itinerarios para recorrer el río, siendo las más frecuentes las que salen desde Brasil (Manaus), o desde Perú (Iquitos). En cualquier caso, prepararos para dejar de lado el mundo civilizado y disfrutar de manera salvaje de este destino apabullante.

Ir al Fin del Mundo, Patagonia

La Patagonia es uno de los pocos lugares del Mundo que permanece aún inalterado y descubrir «el fin del Mundo» es un aliciente extra para explorarla. Desde Bariloche a Ushuaia se encuentra la que se denomina «la Ruta del Fin del Mundo», una ruta en la que en unos 25 días de viaje se recorre la mítica Carretera Austral atravesando enormes bosques con glaciares y lagos milenarios,cruza la Ruta 40 argentina, se visita el Perito Moreno, se atraviesa el Estrecho de Magallanes hacia la Isla de Tierra de Fuego y finalmente se termina en la ciudad más austral del Mundo, Ushuaia. Una sucesión de lugares irrepetibles que se convertirán en vuestra mejor aventura y que vais a recordar siempre.

Alojamiento: en Ushuaia, fin de la etapa, podréis relajaros y disfrutar en Los Cauquenes Resort & Spa, un hotel que os va a dejar con la boca abierta a orillas del Canal Beagle y con una panorámica sobrecogedora de las montañas. Unos 200€ la habitación doble.

Perderse en los backwaters, Kerala

La India más verde,rural y anfibia se concentra entre la jungla y los arrozales de los muelles de Alappuzha, Kollam, Kumarakoum e incluso en la propia ciudad de Cochín. Alrededor de todos ellos se concentran las características barcazas en las que adentrarse por el casi irreal mundo de los backwaters o canales de Kerala. Aunque estos caminos de agua son el mayor atractivo de esta región al sur de la India, la zona esconde también preciosas playas, pueblos de pescadores y reminiscencias de un pasado en el que los barcos llegaban buscando especias. Los kettuvallam son unas embarcaciones alargadas de madera recubiertas por un caparazón de fibra que discurren de manera casi paralela al mar Arábigo. En el pasado acarreaban arroz, cocos o anacardos, y, a pesar de haber estado próximos a desaparecer, hoy en día se reciclan en auténticas casas flotantes para recorrer la zona. Subir a ellos y descubrir los místicos canales de Kerala es otra aventura apasionante y salvaje que al menos una vez en la vida habría que vivir, ¿no creéis?

Alojamiento: si vais en pareja, no perdáis la oportunidad de alquilar el íntimo Sauver Nigam, con tan solo dos camarotes, con el estilo de los viejos kettuvallam y con las mismas medidas para no dañar el ecosistema, pero totalmente renovado. Si sois un grupo más grande, podéis alojaros en el Vaikundum, con nueve camarotes de grandes ventanales para asomarse a los canales.

Acampar en el desierto, Utah

Y el último destino salvaje que os propongo hoy es el Parque Nacional Tierra de Cañones, en Utah: un  desfile de rocas dramáticas con un paisaje salpicado de mil tonos rojizos. Este increíble lugar encierra ríos gemelos, cañones extrechos, prados y jardines silvestres y colores únicos. Está desértico prácticamente en su totalidad y podría ser uno de los paisajes más icónicos de los cowboys americanos. Descubrirlo es conocer en profundidad sus cuatro zonas, con sus propios ecosistemas e historias: La Isla en el Cielo, Las Agujas, El Laberinto y Los Ríos. Las visitas al parque suelen incluir actividades como senderismo, ciclismo, paseos en bote o recorridos por el interior agreste del parque a bordo de vehículos con tracción en las cuatro ruedas, pero lo más alucinante son las excursiones nocturnas, una de las experiencias más intensas.

Alojamiento: en la Isla en el Cielo existe un área de acampada llamada Willow Flat, a tan sólo unos pasos del mejor punto del parque para ver el atardecer: el punto panorámico del Río Green (unos $10 por noche) y en Las Agujas está el área Squaw Flat, con capacidad para 26 tiendas,  ideal para haecr senderismos de un día a zonas como el Parque Chesler, el arco Druid y el Sendero Joint (15$ la noche). Ambos admiten reservas para acampadas en grupo, mientras que el resto de áreas de la zona se ocupan libremente, por orden de llegada.

Good Monday, trippers! We start new week with adventurous spirit, I do not know what happens to me but after coming from India I feel more and more to live different experiences and seek contrasts … so much that I am rethinking my list of destinations for this year! (The truth is that there are times that year purposes may last a little … jejeje)

The fact is that I KNOW that everyone (yes, all … although it may seem that not) we have a wild, instinctive and racial side, which sometimes comes by surprise and brings a little excitement to life. And as the World is so incredible and diverse, it also offers us exciting destinations to unleash this facet and enjoy a more extreme way to travel: in full contact with nature, with an adrenaline rush, sometimes pushing us to the limit , and always challenging. Does not that seem exciting to you?

Searching for the Aurora Borealis, Greenland

One of my great dreams is to witness the Aurora Borealis spending the night in a tent in a camp. It must be an impressive and unforgettable natural spectacle. Greenland is, next to Alaska and Canada, one of the best places from which to contemplate these lights that appear in the sky at dawn or in the sunset in polar latitudes. Southern Greenland is known to have the highest frequency and intensity of solar storms and say it is the best place to observe them. Not only does it have this great attraction, but it is also an ideal location to navigate the fjords between blue icebergs (which hallucinate me!) and spectacular glacial languages. A perfect trip for adventurous spirits beyond the border with the Arctic, with its landscapes of ice and intense green.

Accommodation: This is the place to sleep in a camp, they are located in impressive places as in front of the glaciers, to be able to trek on ice or walk through the tundra, glacier valleys and Inuit farms. Halibut Glacier Camp in Qaleraliq is assembled every year from scratch and is the ideal center of operations to know the area, its tents-domo bedrooms have bunk beds and the community bathroom and shower are located close to them. It is in the middle of nowhere, without electricity or hot water … only for the brave.

Camping in the Rocky Mountains, Canada

In this rocky mountain range located to the west of Canada, it is a true sanctuary of wildlife to about 800 kms. of Vancouver. In it there are four National Parks World Heritage (to access them you must buy a pass), and in about a week you can tour its main points of interest (there are routes by car, bike .. and also has its own train , The Rocky Mountaineer). At the northern end of the Rocky Mountains is Jasper National Park, and at the southern end is Banff National Park, close to Yoho National Park and Kootenay National Park. Jasper is one of the prettiest towns but it is also small and has a limited accommodation offer, so it is important to book in advance to enjoy some wonderful scenery, Lake Maligne or Lake Medicine, or visit the Center Information from Jasper Park, Canada’s largest Rocky Mountains National Park, wild in every sense of the word. The striking blue cornflower water of the Athabasca River runs through this desert stretch at the western end of Alberto, carving a path between steep canyons for explorers, hikers and photographers.

Accommodation: although in this wonderful enclave it is very own to carry our own tent and sleep under the stars surrounded by the giant mountains, there are luxury accommodations such as Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge , in the heart of Beauvert lake, where you can enjoy a much more comfortable view in one of the best locations (about 150 € per night)

Safari in the African savannah, Tanzania

Tanzania is one of the best-preserved natural paradises on earth and a perfect destination for wildlife lovers. In Tanzania the entire essence of the African savannah is maintained, with Kilimanjaro – the highest mountain in Africa – and the Serengeti National Park, which has the highest concentration of animals in the world in quantity and variety. The park guarantees the perfect safari thanks to «The Great Migration», one of the biggest shows of wild nature on the planet where more than a million and a half wildebeest and several thousand other herbivores, such as zebras and gazelles, move almost a thousand kilometers in search of fresh pastures and stable troughs, without doubt a unique spectacle in the World. A boat trip on the Amazon

A boat trip on the Amazon River, in the heart of South America, is the dream of almost any traveler. But not all are prepared for this inhospitable place, practically isolated by land, only fit for the most daring. The experience may be one of the most adventurous and authentic, aboard ships that occasionally barely have a plug. There are also cruises, much better conditioned and also much more expensive, in which I suppose that the experience is completely different. The great attractions: enjoy the most incredible sunrises and sunsets, and breathtaking views of the banks of the rivers and arms of the Amazon. A different trip, a direct and isolated experience with nature. There are different routes and itineraries to cross the river, being the most frequent those that leave from Brazil (Manaus), or from Peru (Iquitos). Go to the end of the world, Patagonia

Patagonia is one of the few places in the world that remains unaltered and discovering «the end of the World» is an extra incentive to explore. Getting lost in the backwaters, Kerala

Green, rural and amphibious India is concentrated between the jungle and rice paddies of Alappuzha, Kollam, Kumarakoum and even Cochin itself. Around them all are barge features in which to enter through the almost unreal world of the backwaters or channels of Kerala. Although these waterways are the major attraction of this region to the south of India, the area also hides beautiful beaches, fishing villages and reminiscences of a past in which ships came looking for spices. The kettuvallam are elongated wooden boats covered by a shell of fiber that run almost parallel to the Arabian Sea. In the past they carried rice, coconuts or cashew nuts, and although they were close to disappearing, today they are recycled into authentic floating houses to travel the area. Climbing them and discovering the mystic channels of Kerala is another exciting and wild adventure that at least once in life would have to live, do not you think?

Accommodation: if you are a couple, do not miss the opportunity to rent the intimate Sauver Nigam, with only two cabins, in the style of the old kettuvallam and with the same measures to not damage the ecosystem, but totally renovated. If you are a larger group, you can stay in theVaikundum, with nine cabins with large windows to peer into the canals.

Camping in the desert, Utah

And the last wild destination that I propose to you today is Canyonland National Park in Utah: a parade of dramatic rocks with a landscape dotted with a thousand shades of red. This incredible place encloses twin rivers, extreme canyons, meadows and wild gardens and unique colors. It is practically desert in its entirety and could be one of the most iconic landscapes of the American cowboys. To discover it is to know in depth its four zones, with its own ecosystems and stories: The Island in the Sky, The Needles, The Labyrinth and The Rivers. Tours to the park often include activities such as hiking, cycling, boating or walking through the harsh interior of the park on four-wheel drive vehicles, but the most amazing are the night excursions, one of the most intense experiences.

Accomodation: On the Island in the Sky there is a camping area called Willow Flat, just a few steps from the best point of the park to see the sunset: the panoramic point of the Green River (about $ 10 per night) and on the Needles, you’ll find the Squaw Flat area, with capacity for 26 shops, ideal for haecr day trips to areas such as Chesler Park, Druid Arch and Joint Trail ($ 15 per night). Both reserve reservations for group camping, while all other areas of the area are freely occupied, on a first come, first served basis.
