¿De escapada por Madrid? Si estáis por la capital unos días, estáis pensando en visitarla o simplemente sois de por aquí, felicidades! Esta época es una de las mejores para disfrutar de la vida de sus barrios, de su creatividad, de sus exposiciones… y de otro de los atractivos que cada vez cobran más fuerza en la ciudad: sus terrazas y azoteas!!

Poder observar los tejados antiguos de Madrid desde las alturas, el parque del Retiro, la mítica Gran Vía o monumentos emblemáticos como La Cibeles o la Puerta de Alcalá son su máximo atractivo, pero también disfrutar con amigos de la puesta de sol o incluso en algunos de sus piscinas. En este post os traigo algunas de las más nuevas para que no os perdáis lo último de lo último… os he seleccionado 10 ubicadas muy próximas entre sí y en pleno centro para que no os conforméis solo con una, se reparten entre las zonas de Plaza de España, Sol, Callao, Gran Vía, Chueca y Retiro,  no os vayáis sin visitarlas!!

De Madrid al cielo en 10 azoteas

 

1. Doña Luz

Empezamos con una terraza que he conocido recientemente y que me ha encantado: al lado de la Puerta del Sol y con vistas a su internacionalmente conocido reloj, esta terraza a la que se accede por una pequeña puerta semi oculta en la Calle Montera, subir a un ascensor y atravesar una cortina con el retrato de la mismísima Doña Luz te sorprende y te impacta nada más entrar. Su decoración esta inspirada en Cartagena de Indias, con colores tierra, maderas y mucha vegetación, y aunque te puedes tomar algo (probad algunos de sus cocktails de autor o la sangría La Petarda con cava, hierbabuena y manzana), es ideal para compartir alguno de sus platos de cocina fusión rodeados de una panorámica de postal: tequeños, guacamole, arepas, las imprescindibles croquetas con ali-oli de cilantro, ceviche, tacos de bogavante…

Está abierta de Domingo a Miércoles de 12h a 0h, los Jueves hasta la 1h y los Viernes y Sábados hasta las 2h. En la Calle Montera 10-12 (Hotel B&B). Precio medio por persona: unos 25€.

 

 

2. Nice to Meet You

La pongo en segundo lugar porque tengo por ella una especie de debilidad… no sé si es porque está en plena Gran Vía, por su orientación al Sur, por sus vistas de 360º, por su pequeña piscina asomada a Madrid o por sus puestas de sol, pero esta terraza en la planta 14 del Dear Hotel te atrapa nada más subir a ella. Me encanta su panorámica sobre los tejados del centro, de la Plaza de España, del Madrid Imperial y hasta de la Casa de Campo.

En ella podréis tomaros alguno de sus cocktails creados por Rafael González (mi preferido es el Panorama con ron, albahaca y limón) o cenar alguno de los platos frescos y sanos de su carta, y los fines de semana suelen tener DJs en directo. Los precios rondan los 12€ en el caso de los cocktails y los 30€ por persona la carta, y lo tenéis abierto de 7:30h a 3h en la calle Gran Vía, 80.

 

 

3. Baileys Treat Bar Bastardo

Alerta, primicia!! Hasta ahora, la azotea-terraza del Hostel Bastardo era de uso privado y exclusivo para los clientes, pero por suerte hasta el día 23 de este mes, ha abierto sus puertas a todos los que deseen disfrutarla gracias a la apertura del Baileys Treat Bar, un espacio pop up de Baileys que anteriormente ha pasado por otras ciudades como Londres o Nueva York. Este nuevo espacio de ambiente chill out y cálido gracias a la madera que aparece de suelo a pared, ofrece menús especiales creados por Baileys en los que degustar helados, cafés, licores, batidos y cocktails y además dan la oportunidad de disfrutar de clases de cocina y coctelería, de fotografía para Instagram o de postres. No os perdáis la oportunidad de conocerla antes de que vuelva a ser privada!!

Abierto hasta el 23 de Junio, de 17h a 21h de Lunes a Viernes y de 15h a 21h los Sábados y Domingos. En la calle de San Mateo, 3.

 

 

4. Generator Hostel 

El nuevo hostal de la cadena Generator, construido en un edificio de cinco plantas que antiguamente albergó el primer parking hidráulico de Madrid con gasolinera entre la Gran Vía y la Plaza de Santo Domingo, es uno de los alojamientos de moda en la capital por su diseño industrial retro-vintage, sus esculturas y obras de arte, y por su azotea con zona de jacuzzi que suelen tener música en directo. La terraza se divide en dos zonas: la del bar y jacuzzis (dos jacuzzis de uso gratuito para los clientes) y otra más elevada que se utiliza para eventos privados, y destaca un gran mural que homenajea a Madrid decorando la pared. Aunque la terraza en sí es sencilla, con sillas de mimbre de colores y grandes mesas hechas con tablones de madera, el ambiente es siempre de buen rollo y merece mucho la pena. La música house de los DJs en directo que suena desde las 19h hasta las 23h se ha bautizado con el nombre de sesiones sundown por acompañar perfectamente a la puesta de sol.

Ofrecen una gran cantidad cocktails o sangría con hielo granizado, micheladas mexicanas, copas… pero son conocidos especialmente por el Miami Vice Frozen: con granizado de piña colada y de daiquiri de fresa que en el vaso se puede ver claramente separado en dos capas pero en el que la sorpresa viene cuando mezclas los dos sabores, super refrescante y original. También tienen picoteo con tapas y raciones españolas típicas.

En la Calle San Bernardo 2, abierto desde las 12:30h hasta la 1:30h.

5. The Mint Roof

Seguimos en la Gran Vía, el Hotel Vincci The Mint, cuenta con una acogedora terraza en su última planta en la que tienen aparcado un pintoresco foodtruck pintado de verde menta del que salen las bebidas y las comidas de picoteo. Otro de sus atractivos es la hora fresca, como denominan al momento del atardecer (en torno a las 21h) y que celebran anunciando con una campanilla y ofreciéndote un chupito de menta. Se trata de un sitio recogido y cálido con unas vistas muy bonitas y, si podéis, es recomendable visitarlo los Martes o los Miércoles para disfrutar de sus Croquette Sessions (para degustar croquetas los Martes) o las Street Food Sessions (para disfrutar de diferentes comidas internacionales de México, Oriente, Italia o EEUU). Pero si esto no os parece suficiente, también se organizan gin manicures, vermut sunsets, Fresh Sessions con DJs… un lugar que nunca deja de sorprenderte.

Lo encontraréis en Gran Vía 10 y abren a partir de las 17h. Los cocktails rondan los 12€ y el precio medio de los platos es de unos 15€.

 

 

6. Ático 11

Nos quedamos por la zona, dentro del Hotel Iberostar Las Letras, este “chiringuito“ playero en las alturas ofrece cocktails y comidas de temática viajera: desde el “Welcome Acapulco“ al “7 días en La Habana“, pasando por “A Roma con amor“… aunque tampoco faltan la típica sangría en sus versiones tradicionales o de cava. Está decorado como un típico kiosco de playa con el característico toldo a rayas, mesas de latón y bombillas incandescentes y sus platos mediterráneos te trasladan junto al mar. Sea lo que sea, es una especie de oasis en mitad de la ciudad y de los edificios madrileños (el edificio de Telefónica se encuentra justo al lado), que invita a disfrutar del momento de la caída del sol y del atardecer.

Abra cada día desde las 18h hasta las 2h y los precios medios rondan los 10-12€ en el caso de los cocktails y los 14€ los platos de la carta. En Gran Vía, 11.

 

 

7. Sunset Lookers 

En plena Plaza de Callao, en el Hotel Mercure Madrid Santo Domingo, está esta terraza ubicada en el séptimo piso con una piscina que, aunque no puedes utilizar si no eres cliente del hotel, desde las 20h hasta las 0h (fines de semana hasta las 2h), se cubre con una cubierta de cristal para pasar a ser la plataforma de la terraza de verano. Sus cocktails son deliciosos e incluso alguno de ellos como el Cocoa ha llegado a ser finalista del World Class 2016. El sitio es precioso, decorado con jardines verticales, y entre sus vistas se puede disfrutar del emblemático edificio con el letrero de Schweppes y del Madrid de los Austrias mientras se van iluminando las luces al desaparecer el sol a ritmo de música chill-out.

Está en la Calle San Bernardo 1/ Plaza de Santo Domingo 13 y abre todas las tardes a partir de las 20h. El precio de los cocktails oscila entre los 10€ y los 12€.

 

 

8. Ginkgo Sky Bar

Caminamos hasta la Plaza de España, donde en la planta 12 del Hotel VP Plaza España Design y con su propia entrada desde la calle tenemos una de las terrazas más recientes y de moda de la capital. En este caso, es un sitio mucho más sofisticado y cool: con techos de espejo, sillones de terciopelo, una barra de coctelería impresionante y hasta su propia mini piscina. Los Miércoles por la noche hacen sesiones de jazz en directo de 21h a 0h y de Jueves a Domingo el ambiente es más “discotequero“. Las bebidas y cocktails también se ofrecen como maridaje a platos tanto locales como internacionales entre los que destacan los “huevos Rotos de atún al estilo Lucio con arroz del delta del Ebro”y los precios no son desorbitados: cocktails entre 10 y 12,5€, platos entre 8€ y 20€…

En Plaza de España 5, abierto de 12h a 2h de Domingo a Miércoles y hasta las 4h de Jueves a Sábado.

9. La Terraza del Hotel Urban

Pasamos ahora a la zona conocida como el triángulo de los museos de Madrid, entre el museo Reina Sofía, el Prado y el Thyssen-Bornemisza. Aquí, justo enfrente del Congreso,  se encuentra uno de los hoteles más in de la ciudad: el Hotel Urban, un cinco estrellas con una terraza de ambiente cosmopolita y una gran piscina donde puedes meter los pies a partir de las 21h (para bañarte debes estar hospedado en el hotel), ideal para tomar alguno de sus exóticos cocktails tiki de orígenes polinesios como el Melon Blue o el Maracaibo y picotear sus tapas. Las vistas del Barrio de las Letras desde la terraza son especiales y desde diferentes ángulos gracias a las distintas alturas.

La tenéis abierta en verano desde las 11h hasta las 2h, en Carrera de San Jerónimo, 34. 

 

 

10. La Terraza del Florida Retiro

Para cambiar un poco el tercio y las vistas, pasamos a esta terraza desde la que en lugar de los tejados y edificios de la ciudad podemos divisar los árboles y la vegetación del Parque del Retiro, para sentirte como si estuvieras en un auténtico oasis relajante en medio del asfalto y el tráfico de Madrid. Es una terraza muy bonita y cuidada cuya decoración se inspira en el desierto de Marruecos (además de bambú, azulejos y vegetación), y con un ambiente fresco e informal: si tenéis un poco de suerte, podréis disfrutar de una sesión de flamenco-fusión en directo. En su carta, los platos del raw bar acompañan cocteles de autor como el Fresh Market o el Mr. Mangoo e incluso tienes la posibilidad de compartir una sisha. Para aseguraros sitio, en su web tenéis la opción de poder reservar mesa.

Abierta de Miércoles a Domingo desde las 17h hasta las 3h, en el Paseo de Panamá s/n. en pleno Retiro (entrada por la Puerta Reina Mercedes en Menéndez Pelayo).

 

 

Con tantas opciones no hay excusa para disfrutar de Madrid desde las alturas!!

From Madrid to the sky in 10 roofs

 

 

1. Doña Luz

Let’s start with a terrace that I recently met and that I loved: next to the Puerta del Sol and overlooking its internationally known clock, this terrace accessed by a small door semi hidden in Calle Montera, up to an elevator and cross a curtain with the portrait of the very same Doña Luz surprises you and impacts you as soon as you enter. Its decoration is inspired by Cartagena de Indias, with earthy colors, woods and a lot of vegetation, and although you can have a drink (try some of its signature cocktails or La Petarda sangria with cava, mint and apple), it is ideal to share some of its fusion cuisine dishes surrounded by a panoramic postcard: tequeños, guacamole, arepas, the essential croquettes with cilantro ali-oli, ceviche, lobster tacos …

It is open from Sunday to Wednesday from 12 am to 0 am, Thursdays until 1 am and Friday and Saturday until 2 am. In Montera Street 10-12 (Hotel B&B). Average price per person: around € 25.

 

 

2. Nice to Meet You

I put it in second place because I have a kind of weakness for it … I do not know if it is because it is on the Gran Vía, due to its orientation to the South, its 360º views, its small pool overlooking Madrid or its sunsets of sun, but this terrace on the 14th floor of the Dear Hotel, it catches you as soon as you get on it. I love its panoramic view over the rooftops of the center, the Plaza de España, the Imperial Madrid and even the Casa de Campo.

In it you can have one of their cocktails created by Rafael González (my favorite is the Panorama with rum, basil and lemon) or dine some of the fresh and healthy dishes of his menu, and weekends usually have live DJs. Prices are around € 12 for cocktails and € 30 per person for the letter, and you have it open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Gran Vía, 80.

 

 

3. Baileys Treat Bar Bastardo

Alert, scoop! So far, the roof-terrace of the Bastardo Hostel was for private use and exclusive for customers, but luckily until the 23rd of this month, it has opened its doors to all those who wish to enjoy it thanks to the opening of the Baileys Treat Bar, a pop up space of Baileys that has previously passed for other cities such as London or New York. This new space of chill out and warm atmosphere thanks to the wood that appears from floor to wall, offers special menus created by Baileys in which to taste ice creams, coffees, liqueurs, smoothies and cocktails and also give the opportunity to enjoy cooking classes and cocktails, photography for Instagram or desserts. Do not miss the opportunity to meet her before she becomes private again!

Open until June 23, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm from Monday to Friday and from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. In San Mateo Street, 3.

 

 

4. Generator Hostel 

The new hostel of the chain Generator,  built in a five-storey building that formerly housed the first hydraulic parking garage in Madrid with a gas station between Gran Vía and Plaza de Santo Domingo, it is one of the fashionable accommodations in the capital for its retro-vintage industrial design, its sculptures and works of art, and for its roof terrace with jacuzzi area that usually have live music. The terrace is divided into two areas: the bar and jacuzzis (two jacuzzis free use for customers) and another higher that is used for private events, and highlights a large mural that pays tribute to Madrid decorating the wall. Although the terrace itself is simple, with colorful wicker chairs and large tables made with wooden planks, the atmosphere is always good and it is well worth it. The house music of the DJs live that sounds from 7 pm to 11 pm has been baptized with the name of sundown sessions for perfectly accompanying the sunset.

They offer a lot of cocktails or sangria with granita ice, Mexican micheladas, spirits … but they are especially known by the Miami Vice Frozen: with pina colada granita and strawberry daiquiri that in the glass can be seen clearly separated in two layers but in which the surprise comes when you mix the two flavors, super refreshing and original. They also have snacks with typical Spanish tapas and raciones.

On San Bernardo Street 2, open from 12:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.

 

5. The Mint Roof

Returning to the Gran Vía, a little further on we find the Hotel Vincci The Mint, with a cozy terrace on the top floor where they have a picturesque foodtruck painted in mint green from which drinks and snacks are served. Another attraction is the fresh hour, as they call it at dusk (around 9pm) and they celebrate by announcing with a bell and offering you a mint shot. It is a warm and collected place with a very nice view and, if you can, it is advisable to visit it on Tuesdays or Wednesdays to enjoy its Croquette Sessions (to taste croquettes on Tuesdays) or the Street Food Sessions (to enjoy different foods internationals from Mexico, the East, Italy or the USA). But if this does not seem enough, they also organize gin manicures, vermouth sunsets, Fresh Sessions with DJs … a place that never ceases to amaze you.

You will find it on Gran Vía 10 and open at 5:00 p.m. The cocktails are around € 12 and the average price of the dishes is around € 15.

 

 

6. Ático 11

Nearby, inside the Hotel Iberostar Las Letras,  this “beach chiringuito» on the heights offers cocktails and travel-themed meals: from the «Welcome Acapulco» to the «7 days in Havana», passing through «To Rome with love» … although there is no lack of typical sangria in its traditional or cava versions. It is decorated like a typical beach kiosk with the characteristic striped awning, brass tables and incandescent bulbs and its Mediterranean dishes take you to the sea. Whatever it is, it is a kind of oasis in the middle of the city and the buildings of Madrid (the Telefonica building is right next door), which invites you to enjoy the moment of sundown and sunset.

Open every day from 6pm to 2am and average prices are around € 10-12 for cocktails and € 14 for dishes on the menu. In Gran Vía, 11.

 

 

7. Sunset Lookers 

In Plaza de Callao, in the Hotel Mercure Madrid Santo Domingo, is this terrace located on the seventh floor with a pool that, although you can not use if you are not a client of the hotel, from 8pm to 0am (weekends until 2am), it is covered with a glass cover to become the platform of the summer terrace. Their cocktails are delicious and even some of them like the Cocoa has become a finalist of the World Class 2016. The place is beautiful, decorated with vertical gardens, and between its views you can enjoy the emblematic building with the sign of Schweppes and Madrid of the Austrias while the lights are illuminated as the sun disappears to the rhythm of chill-out music.

It is in San Bernardo Street 1 / Plaza de Santo Domingo 13 and it opens every afternoon from 8pm. The price of cocktails ranges between € 10 and € 12.

 

 

8. Ginkgo Sky Bar

Walking towards the Plaza de España, on the 12th floor of the Hotel VP Plaza España Design and with its own entrance from the street we have one of the most recent and fashionable terraces of the capital. In this case, it is a much more sophisticated and cool place: with mirror ceilings, velvet armchairs, an impressive cocktail bar and even your own mini pool. On Wednesday nights they do live jazz sessions from 9pm to 0am and from Thursday to Sunday the atmosphere is more «disco». Drinks and cocktails are also offered as a pairing for both local and international dishes, among which are the «Broken eggs of Lucio style tuna with rice from the Ebro delta» and the prices are not exorbitant: cocktails between 10 and 12.5 € , dishes between € 8 and € 20 …

In Plaza de España 5, open from 12am to 2am from Sunday to Wednesday and until 4am from Thursday to Saturday.

9. The terrace of the Hotel Urban

We now go to the area known as the triangle of the museums of Madrid, between the Reina Sofía museum, the Prado and the Thyssen-Bornemisza. Here, just in front of the Congress, is one of the most in hotels of the city: Hotel Urban, a five star hotel with a terrace with a cosmopolitan atmosphere and a large pool where you can put your feet from 9pm (you must stay at the hotel for a swim), ideal for taking some of their exotic tiki cocktails from Polynesian origins such as Melon Blue or the Maracaibo and peck its tapas. The views of the Barrio de las Letras from the terrace are special and from different angles thanks to the different heights.

You have it open in summer from 11am to 2am, at Carrera de San Jerónimo, 34.

 

10. The Florida Retiro Terrace

To change a little the third and the views, we went to this terrace from which instead of the roofs and buildings of the city we can see the trees and the vegetation of the Retiro Park, to feel as if you were in an authentic relaxing oasis in middle of the asphalt and traffic of Madrid. It is a very nice and well-kept terrace whose decoration is inspired by the Moroccan desert (with bamboo, tiles and vegetation), and with a fresh and informal atmosphere: if you have a bit of luck, you can enjoy a flamenco-fusion session live. In its menu, the raw bar dishes accompany signature cocktails such as the Fresh Market or Mr. Mangoo and you even have the possibility to share a sisha. To ensure your site, on your website you have the option to reserve a table.

Open from Wednesday to Sunday from 5pm to 3am, at Paseo de Panamá s / n. in the middle of Retiro (entrance through Puerta Reina Mercedes in Menéndez Pelayo).

 

 

With so many options there is no excuse to enjoy Madrid from the heights !!
