Seguimos esta semana con el viaje de Mallorca, en este caso dedicándole un lugar destacado a sus calas: todas las que tuve la suerte de visitar me parecieron espectaculares, pero también me quedaron muchas por conocer que me dejo apuntadas para mi próxima visita!. Hoy os traigo una selección de las que más me gustaron, divididas por zonas para que podáis organizarlas a modo de ruta, y podáis sacarles todo el partido este verano. Esta semana…

 

15 de mis calas preferidas de Mallorca

 

a. La Ruta del Este

Empiezo por el Este porque las pequeñas calitas de esta zona me encantaron. Partiendo de la localidad de Santanyí, parten diferentes caminos y carreteras para acceder a la mayoría de ellas, y una vez allí encontraréis ambientes para todos los gustos: desde las más familiares hasta las más privadas. Estas son mis 4 preferidas:

 

S’Almonia

Me parece una de las calas con mayor encanto de la isla, gracias a su pequeño embarcadero y el color azul intenso de la entrada del mar entre las rocas que crean una estampa preciosa y muy mediterránea que en ocasiones también me llegaba a recordar a mi cala preferida de Formentera: Caló des mort.

Es Caló des Moro

Una cala muy pequeñita (unos 30 metros) y de difícil y acceso, pero que merece la pena para disfrutar de sus aguas turquesas y arena blanca en un entorno virgen que os parecerá un auténtico paraíso. Me parece uno de los mejores secretos de la isla, no os la perdáis! Para llegar a ella, podréis coger un bus desde Santanyí que os lleva allí directamente, o llegar a ella caminando desde Cala Llombards. Si vais en coche, coged la carretera Ma6100 desde Santanyí en dirección a la Colònia de Sant Jordi, y llegando a una rotonda coged la segunda salida en dirección Cala Llombards. Después, el desvío a la derecha hacia Cala Almunia y aparcar en una urbanización que se encuentra a unos 400 metros de la cala a la que se llega por un sendero.

 

Cala Mondragó

Ubicada en plena Reserva Natural de Mondragó, rodeada de pinos y de rocas, es otra de las calas más impresionantes de la isla. Sus aguas transparentes son poco profundas, perfectas para disfrutar de un buen baño. Para llegar a ella lo mejor es caminar desde la playa de S’Amarador (unos 5 minutos andando).

 

Cala d’Or

Es el nombre con el que se conoce a la localidad en la que se encuentran varias calas: Cala Gran, Cala Esmeralda, Cala Ferrera… y a la que se puede acceder directamente desde Palma cogiendo el bus 501 en la Estación Intermodal. Tras visitar todas ellas, creo que me quedo con Cala Gran: una cala mas bien familiar y concurrida en su zona de arena pero muy tranquila y privada si optas por adentraros en las rocas. Cala Esmeralda es también bonita, pero está tomada casi en exclusiva por el complejo hotelero que la rodea, y Cala Ferrera es algo más grande, por lo que creo que se pierde un poco el encanto.

 

 

 

b. La Ruta del Norte

Siguiendo hacia el Norte de la isla, nos encontramos con el famosísimo pueblo y puerto de Pollensa, un humilde pueblo de pescadores con una linea de costa preciosa en la que abundan hoteles de poca altura, la Península de Formentor donde el Príncipe Rainiero de Mónaco y Grace Kelly pasaron su luna de miel (y desde cuyo Cap de Formentor pueden hacerse las mejores fotografías de la isla), o La Alcudia, una ciudad amurallada considerada de las más bonitas de Mallorca. Pero también en esta zona se esconden pequeñas calas preciosas, como estas 4 que os comento a continuación:

Cala Gat 

Situada en la Punta de Capdepera, esta cala es muy turística en Verano pero merece mucho la pena por su aire rústico, su arenal rodeado de palmitos y el entorno presidido por sa Torre Cega (una fortificación de vigilancia contra los piratas del Siglo SVI), transformada por la familia March en una casa -museo con una colección de esculturas y un parque botánico de unos 60.000 m2. Tiene un chiringuito y una zona de hamacas, y se puede llegar a ella a través de un bonito paseo desde el puerto de Cala Ratjada. Si vais en coche, tendréis que seguir las señalizaciones hacia el Faro de Capdepera y después desviaros por el camino descendente hacia la cala, aparcando en sus alrededores de forma gratuita.

 

Cala Murta

Seguimos con esta cala de rocas y cantos rodados que cuenta con el gran aliciente de ser una de las menor frecuentadas debido a su difícil acceso, por lo que es ideal si lo que vais buscando es paz y relax. También cuenta con alguna que otra cueva en sus alrededores y es una de las mejores calas donde poder ver diferentes tonos de azul y verde en sus aguas.

 

Cala Bóquer

A esta cala se puede llegar haciendo una excursión a pie de menos de 3 kms. desde el Puerto de Pollensa y tras la caminata disfrutar de la vista de sus impresionantes acantilados de piedra caliza en contraste con el color turquesa del agua. Es perfecta si os gusta el buceo.

 

Cala Estreta

Otra calita escondida y vírgen que merece mucho la pena del Norte es Cala Estreta, en el municipio de Artà. Es pequeñita (unos 20 metros de longitud) y muy difícil de llegar a pie. En realidad, se trata de una playa que se abre en dos calas con una entrada de tierra hacia el mar muy peculiar y, como el propio nombre indica, estrecha. Aunque tiene arena gruesa, al entrar al agua hay roca, por lo que es recomendable ir con chanclas o escarpines.

 

 

c. La Ruta del Oeste

La zona Oeste de Mallorca se caracteriza por albergar algunos de los pueblos más bonitos que he visto nunca en España en plena Serra de Tramontana: Deiá, Valldemossa, Banyalbufar… y también por alguna que otra cala escondida. Mi preferida: Cala Deiá, aunque aquí os comento alguna otra por si os quedáis con ganas de más:

 

Cala Deiá

Cerca de uno de los pueblos más bonitos de España, nos encontramos con una pequeña cala igual de bonita, con aire rústico y cantos rodados, y rodeada de casitas antiguas. Un lugar idílico con una zona de escaleras desde las que los más valientes se animan a tirarse al mar e increíbles vistas, sin duda la que más me gustó de la zona.

 

Cala Tuent

Rodeada de pinos y de las montañas de la Serra de Tramuntana, esta cala con forma de media luna con aguas limpísimas te invita a pasar un día tranquilo en plena naturaleza. Aquí se mezclan zonas de arena con rocas y guijarros, y un pequeño muelle para las barcas de los pescadores. Su acceso no sencillo, se llega a través de la carretera C-710 atravesando un camino lleno de desniveles, pero esto hace que nunca esté masificada.

Se trata de un conjunto de dos playas ubicadas entre acantilados y divididas por la garganta del Torrent de Pareis, dando como resultado un paisaje muy bonito. Se puede llegar a ella en alguno de los feries que salen desde Sa Calobra, o bien en coche o autobús atravesando una carretera llena de curvas pero desde la que se pueden disfrutar unas vistas espectaculares.

 

Cala S’Estaca

Otra cala con mucho encanto es esta pequeña cala situada a 4 kms. del Puerto de Valldemossa, rodeada de casitas de pescadores que aumentan su belleza. en esta zona está en venta la casa del actor Michael Douglas.

 

 

d. Y el Sur

El Sur de Mallorca es variopinto y concentra localidades diversas, desde Andrach hasta Cala Fornells o Magaluf… y en él también se salpican calas preciosas aunque puede que algunas más masificadas. Os he seleccionado 3 que me gustaron bastante:

 

Caló des Monjo

Esta cala virgen tiene una panorámicas impresionante dentro de un entorno natural de pinos y rocas y está dividida en dos zonas: un embarcadero a la izquierda con un acceso un poco más incómodo y con piedras y la cala en sí a la derecha algo más cómoda aunque no sea 100% arena. Su fondo marino permite hacer muy buen snorkel, y es frecuentada habitualmente por nudistas.

 

Cala del Mago

Pequeñita y muy famosa entre los turistas, esta cala con vistas espectaculares y un chiringuito animado tiene una zona nudista-gay y otra zona de cala natural donde lo ideal es huir hacia los extremos para evitar a la masa y disfrutar al 100% del entorno.

 

Cala Pi

Esta cala toma su nombre de los pinos que la rodean y del torrente que desemboca en sus aguas. Tiene arena fina y blanca, y la playa penetra casi medio km. entre dos paredes verticales de más de 30 metros de altura, lo que hace que quede muy resguardada y sus aguas estén siempre muy tranquilas. En sus alrededores hay una zona residencial, y no es de las más masificadas, pero para acceder a ella hay que bajar bastantes escalones de roca (147 para ser exactos). Lo mejor, es que justo en la arena hay un chiringuito de estilo chill out bastante guay. Ah! Y no os perdáis sus vistas desde lo alto.

15 of my favorite coves in Mallorca

 

a. The Eastern route

I start in the East because the little coves of this area enchanted me. Starting from the town of Santanyí, different roads and roads start to access most of them, and once there you will find environments for all tastes: from the most familiar to the most private. We highlight these 4:

 

S’Almonia

It seems to me one of the most charming coves on the island, thanks to its small jetty and the deep blue color of the entrance of the sea between the rocks that create a beautiful and very Mediterranean image that sometimes also came to remind me of my cove preferred of Formentera: Caló des Mort.

Es Caló des Moro

A small cove (about 30 meters) and difficult and access, but it is worth it to enjoy its turquoise waters and white sand in a virgin environment that will seem like a real paradise. It seems to me one of the best secrets of the island, do not miss it! To get there, you can take a bus from Santanyí that takes you there directly, or get there by walking from Cala Llombards. If you are driving, take the Ma6100 road from Santanyí in the direction of Colònia de Sant Jordi, and arriving at a roundabout take the second exit towards Cala Llombards. After, the detour to the right towards Cala Almunia and park in an urbanization that is about 400 meters from the cove which is reached by a path.

 

Cala Mondragó

Located in the Natural Reserve of Mondragó, surrounded by pine trees and rocks, it is another of the most impressive coves on the island. Its transparent waters are shallow, perfect to enjoy a good bath. To get there, it is best to walk from the beach of S’Amarador (about 5 minutes walk).

 

Cala d’Or

It is the name by which the town is known in which there are several coves: Cala Gran, Cala Esmeralda, Cala Ferrera … and which can be accessed directly from Palma by taking bus 501 at the Intermodal Station. After visiting all of them, I think I’ll stay with Cala Gran: a cove rather familiar and busy in its area of sand but very quiet and private if you choose to venture into the rocks. Cala Esmeralda is also pretty, but it’s taken almost exclusively by the hotel complex that surrounds it, and Cala Ferrera is a bit bigger, so I think it loses a bit of charm.

 

 

 

b. The Northern route

Continuing towards the North of the island, we find the famous town and port of Pollensa, a humble fishing village with a beautiful coast line where low-rise hotels abound, the Formentor Peninsula where Prince Rainier of Monaco and Grace Kelly spent their honeymoon (and from which Cap de Formentor can take the best pictures of the island), or La Alcudia, a walled city considered one of the most beautiful in Mallorca. But also in this area are hidden small beautiful coves, like this 4 that I comment below:

Cala Gat 

Located in Punta de Capdepera, this cove is very touristy in the summer but it is very worth it for its rustic air, its sand beach surrounded by palm trees and the environment presided by sa Torre Cega (a fortification of surveillance against the pirates of the SVI Century), transformed by the March family into a house – a museum with a collection of sculptures and a botanical park of some 60,000 m2. It has a beach bar and a hammock area, and you can reach it through a nice walk from the port of Cala Ratjada. If you are driving, you will have to follow the signs to the Capdepera Lighthouse and then deviate on the way down to the cove, parking in its surroundings for free.

 

Cala Murta

We continue with this cove of rocks and boulders that has the great attraction of being one of the least frequented due to its difficult access, so it is ideal if what you are looking for is peace and relaxation. It also has some other cave in its surroundings and is one of the best coves where you can see different shades of blue and green in its waters.

 

Cala Bóquer

This cove can be reached by taking a walking tour of less than 3 kms. from the Port of Pollensa and after the walk enjoy the view of its impressive limestone cliffs in contrast to the turquoise color of the water. It’s perfect if you like diving.

 

Cala Estreta

Another hidden cove and virgin that deserves much the penalty of the North is Cala Estreta, in the municipality of Artà. It is tiny (about 20 meters long) and very difficult to reach on foot. Actually, it is a beach that opens into two coves with a land entrance to the sea very peculiar and, as the name suggests, narrow. Although it has coarse sand, when entering the water there is rock, so it is advisable to go with flip flops or slippers.

 

 

c. The Western route

The western zone of Mallorca is characterized by housing some of the most beautiful villages I have ever seen in Spain in the Serra de Tramontana: Deiá, Valldemossa, Banyalbufar … and also for some hidden coves. My favorite: Cala Deiá, although here I mention some more…

 

Cala Deiá

Near one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, we find a small cove just as nice, with rustic air and pebbles, and surrounded by old houses. An idyllic place with an area of stairs from which the bravest are encouraged to throw themselves into the sea and incredible views, without a doubt the one I liked most about the area.

 

Cala Tuent

Surrounded by pine trees and the mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, this crescent-shaped cove with crystal clear waters invites you to spend a quiet day surrounded by nature. Here sand areas are mixed with rocks and pebbles, and a small dock for fishermen’s boats. Its access is not easy, it is reached through the C-710 road crossing a road full of slopes, but this makes it never overcrowded.

 

It is a set of two beaches located between cliffs and divided by the Torrent de Pareis gorge, resulting in a very beautiful landscape. You can reach it in one of the feries that depart from Sa Calobra, or by car or bus crossing a road full of curves but from which you can enjoy spectacular views.

 

Cala S’Estaca

Another cove with a lot of charm is this small cove located 4 kms. of the Port of Valldemossa, surrounded by fishermen’s houses that increase their beauty. In this area the house of actor Michael Douglas is for sale.

 

 

d. And the South

The south of Majorca is diverse and concentrates diverse localities, from Andrach to Cala Fornells or Magaluf … and it is also dotted with beautiful coves, although some can be more crowded. I have selected 3 that I liked a lot:

 

Caló des Monjo

This virgin cove has a breathtaking panorama within a natural environment of pine trees and rocks and is divided into two areas: a jetty on the left with a slightly more uncomfortable access and with rocks and the cove itself to the right something more comfortable although Do not be 100% sand. Its seabed makes it very good snorkeling, and is usually frequented by nudists.

 

Cala del Mago

Small and very famous among tourists, this cove with spectacular views and a lively chiringuito has a nudist-gay area and another area of natural cove where the ideal is to flee to the ends to avoid the mass and enjoy 100% of the environment.

 

Cala Pi

This cove takes its name from the pine trees that surround it and from the torrent that flows into its waters. It has fine white sand, and the beach penetrates almost half a km. between two vertical walls of more than 30 meters high, which makes it very sheltered and its waters are always very calm. In its surroundings there is a residential area, and is not the most overcrowded, but to access it you have to go down quite a few steps of rock (147 to be exact). The best thing is that right in the sand there is a chill out bar chill out pretty cool. Ah! And do not miss your views from above.
