Aunque ya estamos en marzo, deseo que hayáis empezado el nuevo año con una sonrisa y sobre todo con algún que otro viaje planificado. Yo tengo muchas expectativas y espero que 2024 venga cargado de nuevas aventuras.
Nuestro primer destino del año fue Fuerteventura, pero ya tenéis un post dedicado a esta isla en el blog… en realidad volvimos porque me moría de ganas de regresar a la Isla de Lobos, uno de mis sitios preferidos. A pesar de ser un islote pequeñito, me parece obligatorio conocerlo si vais a Canarias, así que aquí os dejo mi review por si os apetece descubrir todos sus rinconcitos…

¿Por qué Isla de Lobos?
Este pequeño islote situado entre Fuerteventura y Lanzarote es una pequeña joya salvaje que puede recorrerse en unas 4 horas y es la excursión perfecta de un día si estáis por las islas cercanas. Podría definirse perfectamente como un paraíso por su tranquilidad, sus increíbles playas o su atmósfera que inmediatamente te hace desconectar del bullicio y de la civilización. Pero Isla de Lobos es mucho más: es el contacto directo con la naturaleza, hacer senderismo entre paisajes de infarto y hasta tener la posibilidad de charlar con los pescadores que viven en la isla, que hasta te abren las puertas de su casa mientras compartes con ellos una cerveza y te cuentan sus historias.
Cómo llegar
La manera más habitual de llegar a Isla de Lobos es coger un ferry en el puerto de Corralejo. A lo largo del paseo del puerto encontraréis muchos puestecitos vendiendo los tickets, con precios que empiezan en los 14-15€ por adulto ida y vuelta. El trayecto en ferry dura solo 15 minutos y hay unos 3-4 ferries diarios por compañía en cada trayecto. Nosotros escogimos la compañía Naviera Nortour porque era la que más nos encajaba por horarios tanto a la ida como a la vuelta.
Además del ferry, existe la posibilidad de contratar un water taxi privado para no estar dependiendo tanto de los horarios. El precio de estos taxis ronda los 120€ ida y vuelta para grupos de hasta 12 personas.
Finalmente, otra manera de llegar a la isla si no estás en Fuerteventura sino en Lanzarote es contratar una excursión de 1 día que combina el ferry a Corralejo con la visita a Isla de Lobos en catamarán por unos 100€/persona.
Centro de visitantes
Nada más bajaros del ferry encontraréis el Centro de Visitantes de Isla de Lobos, lo reconoceréis inmediatamente porque es una única cabaña de madera. Abre a las 10:30h y en él podréis consultar toda la información y rutas de la isla (aunque todos los caminos están muy bien señalizados), os cuentan su origen e historia y ayudan a resolver todas vuestras dudas. También tiene baños, importante porque son junto a los del restaurante los únicos que vais a encontrar.
Qué hacer en Isla de Lobos
Para nosotros el plan ideal en Isla de Lobos es nada más llegar ir a reservar vuestra comida en el restaurante (si no vais a llevar comida desde casa), después dedicar las primeras horas a recorrer las diferentes rutas de senderismo, parar en el Puertito para el aperitivo, comer en el restaurante y finalmente descansar y disfrutar de las playas, esta es la ruta que os proponemos:

Toda la isla está recorrida por una ruta circular bien señalizada que la atraviesa de Norte a Sur desde el puerto hasta el faro y después baja por el Este. La ruta, empezándola desde el puerto en el que te deja el ferry a mano izquierda, cubre los siguientes puntos: Playa de la Concha, Las Salinas, Montaña de la Caldera, Caleta del Palo, Faro de Martiño, Atalaya del Faro, Las Lagunillas y Puertito de Lobos para terminar de nuevo en el muelle del puerto.
Playa de la Concha
A tan solo 10 minutos a pie desde el embarcadero y cogiendo el desvío hacia La Caleta encontramos una de las playas más tranquilas y encantadoras: La Concha. Tiene una forma semicircular muy característica y unas vistas muy bonitas de Fuerteventura y Corralejo, siendo ideal para pasar un rato disfrutando de la paz y el silencio antes de visitar otros puntos más concurridos, ya que forma una especie de rinconcito resguardado del viento y el oleaje. La playa es de arena, sus aguas cristalinas y no tiene ningún tipo de servicio, por lo que si os gusta y decidís quedaros allí no olvidéis llevar provisiones.
Las Salinas
Siguiendo la ruta circular a una distancia de 1,5 kms. aprox. desde el muelle y detrás de La Concha veréis las Salinas del Marrajo, que se empezaron a construir en 1944 pero nunca llegaron a utilizarse. Fueron restauradas en el año 2010 incorporando las pasarelas que ahora permiten visitarlas. Paseando sobre ellas podréis ver los cocederos que en su época ayudaban a elevar la temperatura del agua y canalizarla hacia los tajos, donde se evaporaba y se extraía la sal.
Montaña de la Caldera
La Montaña de la Caldera es un antiguo volcán de unos 100 metros de altura donde hacer rutas de senderismo, y se encuentra a 1 km. aproximadamente de la playa de la Concha, tomando el desvío que lleva su nombre. Muchos visitantes suben hasta la cima para disfrutar de las vistas haciendo un sendero de unos 500 metros pero con una pendiente bastante empinada, y una vez allí se puede ver el cráter del volcán. (Caleta del Palo), el faro de la isla (Faro de Martiño) y las islas de los alrededores. Es una vista muy recomendable – siempre que no haga demasiado calor- y os dará otra perspectiva de Lobos.
Faro de Punta Martiño
Continuando el camino hacia el Noroeste de la isla os encontraréis con el Faro, situado sobre una colina a un poco menos de 30 metros sobre el nivel del mar. El faro se construyó durante el reinado de Isabel II y tardó unos 5 años en construirse, tiene una torre cilíndrica de unos 6 metros de altura y es de estilo neoclásico.
Las Lagunitas
La Playa de las Lagunitas es una bahía en la que podemos encontrar varias piscinas naturales con algunos bancos de arena para relajarse, descansar y darse un baño protegido de las olas. El agua es transparente y poco profunda, por lo que es un lugar en el que suele haber familias con niños, aunque también hay que tener cuidado porque el suelo es algo resbaladizo. El sendero para llegar a esta zona es de piedras y en la zona también hay algunas casetas que se utilizan como observatorios de aves. Antes de ir a las Lagunitas es recomendable consultar las mareas, ya que cuando la marea sube las lagunas se desbordan y el camino tiende a inundarse.
Puertito de Lobos
Sin duda alguna, es el lugar más icónico de la isla y su visita es obligada en Lobos… lo que también hace que sea un lugar muy concurrido y menos tranquilo. En esta zona se agrupan algunas casitas de pescadores alrededor de varias piscinas naturales de color turquesa cristalino sobre las que se asoma el carismático y fotogénico muelle de madera donde todo el mundo se fotografía. También es el sitio en el que se ubica el único restaurante de la isla donde se suele parar a fuerzas. Las vistas son simplemente increíbles, y se respira un ambiente auténtico de pueblito marinero en el que puedes charlar animadamente con algún pescador local.
Comer en Lobos
El único restaurante de la isla es el Chiringuito de Antoñito el Farero en el Puertito, cuyo nombre viene del último habitante que vivió en la isla en el Faro de Punta Martiño. Es tan pequeño que solo puede dar servicio a un determinado numero de clientes y comidas al día (tanto para tomar en el restaurante como para llevar). Su carta es limitada y se va “agotando“ a medida que se van haciendo las reservas, por lo que es muy recomendable si queréis comer allí que lo primero que hagáis nada más llegar a la isla sea pasar por allí a reservar tanto el turno como la comida. Las reservas se hacen en el pequeño mostrador que hay frente al restaurante, y allí también es posible comprar alguna bebida o snack (también limitados). Los precios no son abusivos para ser el único sitio que existe para comer y sirven raciones abundantes, pero lo mas importante es que disfrutaréis de un paisaje y unas vistas que se os quedarán grabados para siempre en la memoria… 💙

Although we are already in March, I hope you have started the new year with a smile on your face and above all with a trip or two planned. I have high expectations and I hope that 2024 will be full of new adventures.
Our first destination of the year was Fuerteventura, but you already have a post dedicated to this island in the blog… actually we came back because I was dying to return to Lobos Island, one of my favorite places. Despite being a tiny island, I think it is a must to visit it if you go to the Canary Islands, so here I leave you my review in case you want to discover all its little corners…

Why Lobos Island?
This small island located between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote is a small wild jewel that can be traveled in about 4 hours and is the perfect day trip if you are in the nearby islands. It could be perfectly defined as a paradise for its tranquility, its incredible beaches or its atmosphere that immediately makes you disconnect from the hustle and bustle of civilization. But Isla de Lobos is much more: it is the direct contact with nature, hiking among breathtaking landscapes and even having the chance to chat with the fishermen who live on the island, who even open the doors of their house while you share a beer with them and tell you their stories.
How to get there
The most common way to get to Isla de Lobos is to take a ferry from the port of Corralejo. Along the harbor promenade you will find many stalls selling tickets, with prices starting at 14-15€ per adult round trip. The ferry ride takes only 15 minutes and there are about 3-4 ferries per day per company each way. We chose the company Naviera Nortour because it was the most convenient for us in terms of schedules both on the outward and return journeys.
In addition to the ferry, there is the possibility to hire a private water taxi so as not to be so dependent on schedules. The price of these cabs is around 120 € round trip for groups of up to 12 people.
Finally, another way to reach the island if you are not in Fuerteventura but in Lanzarote is to hire a 1 day tour which combines the ferry to Corralejo with a visit to Isla de Lobos by catamaran for about 100€/person.
Visitor center
As soon as you get off the ferry you will find the Visitor Center of Isla de Lobos, you will recognize it immediately because it is a single wooden hut. It opens at 10:30 am and there you can consult all the information and routes of the island (although all the paths are very well marked), they tell you their origin and history and help you to solve all your doubts. It also has toilets, important because they are the only ones you will find in addition to the restaurant’s ones.
What to do in Isla de Lobos
For us the ideal plan in Isla de Lobos is as soon as you arrive to book your meal at the restaurant (if you are not going to bring food from home), then spend the first few hours to walk the different hiking trails, stop at the Puertito for a snack, eat at the restaurant and finally relax and enjoy the beaches, this is the route we propose:

Trail
The entire island is covered by a well marked circular route that crosses it from north to south from the port to the lighthouse and then descends to the east. The route, starting from the port where the ferry leaves you on the left hand side, covers the following points: Playa de la Concha, Las Salinas, Montaña de la Caldera, Caleta del Palo, Faro de Martiño, Atalaya del Faro, Las Lagunillas and Puertito de Lobos to finish back at the port pier.
La Concha beach
Just 10 minutes walk from the pier and taking the detour to La Caleta we find one of the quietest and most charming beaches: La Concha. It has a very characteristic semicircular shape and beautiful views of Fuerteventura and Corralejo, being ideal to spend some time enjoying the peace and quiet before visiting other busier spots, as it forms a kind of little corner sheltered from the wind and waves. The beach is sandy, crystal clear waters and has no service, so if you like and decide to stay there do not forget to bring provisions.
The Salinas
Following the circular route at a distance of 1.5 kms. approx. from the pier and behind La Concha you will see the Salinas del Marrajo, which began to be built in 1944 but were never used. They were restored in 2010 incorporating the walkways that now allow you to visit them. Walking on them you can see the troughs that in their time helped to raise the temperature of the water and channel it to the pits, where it evaporated and the salt was extracted.
The Caldera Mountain
La Montaña de la Caldera is an ancient volcano about 100 meters high where hiking trails, and is located about 1 km. approximately from the beach of La Concha, taking the detour that bears his name. Many visitors climb up to the top to enjoy the views by taking a path of about 500 meters but with a fairly steep slope, and once there you can see the crater of the volcano (Caleta del Palo), the lighthouse of the island (Faro de Martiño) and the surrounding islands. It is a highly recommended view – as long as it is not too hot – and it will give you another perspective of Lobos.
Punta Martiño Lighthouse
Continuing the road to the northwest of the island you will find the lighthouse, located on a hill a little less than 30 meters above sea level. The lighthouse was built during the reign of Isabel II and took about 5 years to build, has a cylindrical tower about 6 meters high and is neoclassical in style.
The Lagunitas
Playa de las Lagunitas is a bay where we can find several natural pools with some sandbanks to relax, rest and take a bath protected from the waves. The water is transparent and shallow, so it is a place where there are usually families with children, although you also have to be careful because the ground is somewhat slippery. The path to reach this area is made of stones and in the area there are also some huts that are used as bird observatories. Before going to the Lagunitas it is advisable to check the tides, because when the tide rises the lagoons overflow and the path tends to flood.
Puertito of Lobos
Undoubtedly, it is the most iconic place on the island and its visit is a must in Lobos… which also makes it a very crowded and less quiet place. In this area some fishermen’s cottages are grouped around several natural pools of crystalline turquoise over which looms the charismatic and photogenic wooden pier where everyone is photographed. It is also the site of the only restaurant on the island where people usually stop for lunch. The views are simply incredible, and there is an authentic atmosphere of a small fishing village where you can have a lively chat with a local fisherman.
Eating in Lobos
The only restaurant on the island is the Chiringuito de Antoñito el Farero in El Puertito, named after the last inhabitant who lived on the island at the Punta Martiño lighthouse. It is so small that it can only serve a certain number of customers and meals per day (both to take in the restaurant and to take away). Its menu is limited and is «running out» as reservations are made, so it is highly recommended that if you want to eat there the first thing you do upon arrival to the island is to go there to book both the shift and the meal. Reservations are made at the small counter in front of the restaurant, and there you can also buy a drink or snack (also limited). The prices are not abusive for being the only place that exists to eat and serve hearty portions, but the most important thing is that you will enjoy a landscape and views that will remain forever etched in your memory …. 💙
