Hoy viajamos a Capadocia, un lugar único en el mundo que estoy segura que aparece en la wish list de todo pequeño o gran viajero. Pasamos 4 días allí antes de volar a Estambul y nos supieron a poco, aquí os dejo la ficha de nuestro viaje:

¿Por qué Capadocia?
Para mí este destino es uno de los viajes que hay que hacer al menos una vez en la vida: sus paisajes, la experiencia de ver los globos sobrevolando las formaciones rocosas al amanecer y lo diferente que es a cualquier otro lugar del mundo hacen que merezca mucho la pena añadir un par de días a vuestro viaje a Turquía para conocerlo y m parece un complemento prefecto a Estambul: un contraste aventurero y “salvaje“ a una experiencia más cultural de la ciudad.
Mejor época para viajar
Los mejores meses para visitar Capadocia son Mayo, Junio, Septiembre y Octubre cuando las temperaturas permiten hacer la mayoría de las actividades (hiking, excursiones, subidas en globo…) Tened en cuenta que también son los meses de mayor afluencia turística. Nosotros fuimos a finales de Octubre y no había demasiada gente, además nos hizo un tiempo perfecto entre los 16 y 22ºC. De noviembre a marzo hace bastante frio, viento y es frecuente que nieve (el paisaje es precioso y apenas encontraréis turistas, pero el clima os puede jugar malas pasadas), mientras que en julio y agosto las temperaturas pueden llegar a subir de los 35ºC durante el día.
Cómo llegar a Capadocia
Esta zona se encuentra a un algo más de 750 kms. de Estambul y se descubre desde poblaciones como Göreme (la mas habitual), Uçhisar o Ürgüp. Nosotros elegimos volar desde Estambul a Nevşehir (aeropuerto mas próximo a Göreme), pero hay otras maneras de llegar:
Llegar a Capadocia en Avión ✈️
Los aeropuertos de Capadocia son Kayseri (74 kms/ 1h de Göreme) y Nevşehir (37 kms/ 40 mins. de Göreme). El vuelo desde Estambul dura 1:15h/1:30h.(Turkish Airlines, Pegasus) Si lo sacáis con antelación es muy económico (unos 50€ ida y vuelta). El taxi a Göreme cuesta unos 40-50€, el shuttle bus compartido unos 10-15€ (hay que reservarlo online con antelación), y el transfer privado 10€/ persona.
Llegar a Capadocia en coche/ bus 🛣
En el aeropuerto de Estambul podéis alquilar un coche desde unos 15€ al día, pero la distancia es muy larga. Si preferís coche alquilarlo mejor una vez lleguéis a Capadocia. También hay autobuses desde la Estación de autobuses de Estambul como opción para viajar de noche, ya que los trayectos son largos (unas 12 horas). Si preparáis el viaje con antelación el vuelo os saldrá a un precio similar y ganaréis tiempo.
Llegar a Capadocia en tour 🚌
Empresas como Civitatis organizan excursiones a Capadocia desde Estambul de 1 día o de 4 días, y Get Your Guide ofrece un tour de 2 días con posibilidad de contratar un paseo en globo. Estas opciones son bastante cómodas al incluir alojamiento, comidas y excursiones para conocer lo más destacado de la zona.
Datos sobre Capadocia
Capadocia es una region de unos 50 kms. d diámetro situada en Anatolia Central y en antiguo persa significa “Tierra de hermosos caballos“. Su característico paisaje formado por valles de formaciones geológicas puntiagudas y sus pueblecitos con casas incrustadas en las montañas son una de las principales atracciones de Turquía. Sus “chimeneas de las hadas“ pueden alcanzar hasta los 50 metros de alto y bajo sus suelos se esconden ciudades subterráneas secretas. Tiene 4 provincias: Nevşehir, Kayseri, Aksaray y Nigde, y su población no llega al millón de habitantes.
Alojamiento en Capadocia
Sin duda, una de las mejores experiencias en Capadocia es alojarse en uno de sus característicos hotel cueva. Son alojamientos excavados en la ladera de las montañas que cuentan con diferentes tipo de habitaciones, entre ellas las habitaciones cueva cuyas paredes y techos son la propia roca. En Capadocia el precio del alojamiento es asequible y hay opciones realmente económicas pero ojo! es crucial elegir bien la localización si buscáis ver los globos en primera fila.
En Göreme, los alojamientos perfectos para verlos son aquellos cuyas terrazas se orientan hacia el Sunrise Point o hacia puntos estratégicos en los vuelos de los globos, algunos ejemplos:

Si preferís alojaros fuera de Göreme, en Uçhisar The Rupestral House tiene una terraza muy bonita con vistas a los globos y en Ürgüp una buena opción (con piscina!) sería el Kayakapi Premium Caves.
Nuestro hotel
Nos alojamos en Elite Cave Suites Hotel tras sopesar (mucho!) muchas alternativas y sobre todo por su ubicación. Aunque el hotel era sencillo, poder casi tocar los globos desde la ventana de nuestra habitación era imbatible y tras estar allí nos dimos cuenta que en otro alojamiento nuestra experiencia no hubiese sido igual de inolvidable. Está solo unos pasos de la calle principal, justo delante de uno de los mejores miradores del valle (Sunset Point) y sobre sus terrazas (una con un columpio precioso) los globos pasaban a escasos centímetros de nosotros por las mañanas. El precio por noche fluctúa según temporada/ tipo de habitación entre los 55€ y los 110€ con desayuno. Lo recomendamos totalmente.
Qué hacer en Capadocia
Se recomiendan 3 días para ver lo imprescindible, pero si tenéis la suerte de alargar un poco más los días os dejo más recomendaciones!

Love Valley
Llamado así por las formas “eróticas“ de sus formaciones rocosas, es uno de los paisajes mas conocidos de la Capadocia. Podéis visitarlo al amanecer porque es un lugar desde el que se pueden ver bien los globos, pasear por los senderos el valle y disfrutar de sus cafeterías o miradores para observar el paisaje desde las alturas. Podéis llegar a él caminando desde Göreme en un paseo de unos 5 kms/1h.
Zona arqueológica de Zelve – Pasabag
Pasabag o Valle de los Monjes se encuentra a unos 3kms. de Göreme y es fácilmente accesible andando (1h aprox.), en coche o en bus. La entrada a la zona arqueológica entra en el Museum Pass y sin el pase es de 280 TL por persona incluyendo el Museo Zelve. Este valle e ideal para empezar a explorar la zona porque en él están las famosas Chimeneas de las Hadas y la ermita de San Simón con su chimenea de tres puntas. El Zelve Museum es un museo al aire libre abierto de 8h a 17h en el que caminas por un paisaje rojizo viendo antiguas poblaciones excavadas en la roca. Toda la visita (valle + museo) lleva unas 2h.
Devrent o Imagination Valley
Está a unos 4,5 kms. del Zelve Museum y es un conocido por sus características formas rocosas que parecen animales. Puedes recorrer la zona en bici o a pie en un paseo de una hora admirando estas formas e imaginando a qué corresponden, de ahí su nombre.
Red y Rose Valley
Son dos valles contiguos muy bonitos para ver la puesta de sol (en el caso de Rose Valley también al amanecer, ya que es un sitio desde el que suelen salir los globos a primera hora). Tienen varias rutas de senderismo de diferentes duraciones y dificultades y después de la caminata puedes terminar en uno de sus miradores para ver una de las puestas de sol mas bonitas de la zona mientras te tomas algo (os dejamos info abajo)
Paseo en globo
Cada día unos 150 globos vuelan sobre Göreme. Montar en globo es una experiencia inolvidable que vivir en Capadocia, aunque también ver los globos desde tierra o la terraza de vuestro hotel es impresionante. Esta actividad se puede contratar en el pueblo u online con antelación, aunque si las condiciones climatológicas no acompañan hay riesgo de que se cancele el día anterior. El precio varía según época, duración y nº de pasajeros, lo habitual son 200€-280€ con recogida (4-5 a.m.)y vuelta al hotel (8-9 a.m.), incluyendo además del vuelo un desayuno mientras llenan los globos y una copa de champagne al aterrizar.
Göreme y Museo al aire libre
Göreme nos pareció un lugar encantador y la perfecta base de operaciones para visitar Capadocia. Sus terrazas, cafés y restaurantes, tiendecitas, las rutas para caminar o los miradores de los alrededores merecen dedicarle un tiempo y disfrutarlos. También en Göreme es imprescindible visitar el Open Air Museum, un complejo de varios monasterios excavados en la roca con unos frescos impresionantes que es Patrimonio d la Humanidad por la UNESCO desde 1984. Se llega fácilmente andando desde el pueblo en un paseo de unos 15 mins., abre d 9h a 17h y la entrada entra en el Museum Pass o cuesta 480 TL. Ojo! se llena de gente y suelen formarse largas colas para entrar.
Pigeon Valley
Se llama Valle de las Palomas porque en él se encuentran multitud de palomares tallados en la roca de las montañas. Se puede llegar andando desde un camino que parte desde el sur de Göreme llamado Pigeon Valley Trailhead East. Este camino empieza justo en el límite de la ciudad (calle Uzun Dere) y continúa por el canal hasta llegar a un cartel a la entrada del valle, que se recorre hasta llegar a Uçhisar en aproximadamente 1h. A lo largo de la ruta pueden verse desde antiguas casas de trogloditas hasta pinturas antiguas, pilares de roca y palomas.
Uçhisar y su castillo
El lugar más visitado en Uçhisar es su castillo, una ciudadela en lo alto de una montaña con unas vistas únicas de la Capadocia (es el pico más elevado de la zona, con más de 1200 metros de altura) construida el siglo VII d.C. por los bizantinos con el objetivo de detener a las tropas musulmanas. Para acceder hay que subir 120 escalones y si queréis verlo por dentro (aunque lo verdaderamente llamativo son las vistas) la entrada son 80 TL – no entra en el Museum Pass-. Uçhisar es un pueblo muy tranquilo y muchos lo escogen para alojarse por tener precios más económicos que Göreme.
Ciudades Subterráneas: Kaymaklı y Derinkuyu
En Capadocia hay más de 36 ciudades subterráneas pero no todas están abiertas al público. De las que pueden visitarse, Kaymaklı es las más grande y data del año 1300 A.C. (se pueden visitar 4 de sus 8 niveles), mientras que Derinkuyu es la más profunda (unos 85 metros bajo tierra y 20 niveles de los que pueden visitarse 8). Ambas se encuentran conectadas por un túnel de 9kms. Abren del 01/04 al 31/10 de 8:30h a 19h y del 01/11 al 31/03 de 8:30h a 17h y la entrada es de 300 LT en cada una (entran en el Museum Pass). Es recomendable llevar alguna prenda de abrigo y calzado cómodo/ antideslizante, y no las recomendaría en caso de sufrir claustrofobia.
Sunset Point y miradores
Capadocia está llena de miradores y el más famoso es el de Aktepe Hill (Sunset Point), desde donde se pueden ver tanto los globos que despegan por la mañana (cobran una entrada simbólica de menos de 1 euro por subir) como una hermosa puesta de sol. En el mirador hay pequeños puestos que venden bebidas y fruta, y se puede disfrutar de la vista desde columpios o mesas. Además del Sunset Point, están el mirador del Valle del Amor, los miradores del Valle de las Rosas y del Valle Rojo, el mirador Panorama de Göreme y muchas terrazas con preciosas vistas (ver más abajo).
Otros atractivos de la zona
Si tenéis más días podéis ver también pueblos como Çavusin (con sus casas abandonadas cavadas en la roca), Ürgüp (conocido por sus vinos y animada vida nocturna, su hamam y la Temenni Tepesi o Colina de los Deseos), Ortahisar (la “hermana pequeña“ de Uçhisar, también con su propio castillo), Avanos (conocido por su alfarería), o Mustafapaşa (con sus construcciones típicas griegas), visitar las Twin Fairy Chimneys (junto a Ürgüp, y con su propio mercadillo) o hacer alguna ruta en quad o caballo al atardecer.
Comer en Göreme
La cocina de Capadocia se basa en mezclas de carnes, verduras o legumbres cocinadas en vasijas de barro que aportan un sabor característico a los platos, y también cuenta con postres y sopas. Destacan el Testi Kebab (un plato de Anatolia Central cocinado en una jarra hecha con tierra y que tiene su propio ritual de presentación en el que se rompe delante del comensal la vasija y se sirve el contenido en el plato), las albóndigas, el guiso de albaricoques, los frijoles secos Ağpağla, la sopa de lentejas o postres como el Çiğleme (una mezcla de azúcar, huevos, miel, mantequilla, nueces y avellanas), el queso en cerámica o los albaricoques rellenos.
Nuestros sitios favoritos para comer en Göreme:
Nos encantó este pequeño restaurante super auténtico y casero en pleno centro de Göreme, probamos los pides (deliciosos!!!), platos típicos, kebabs… los precios son muy económicos y todo riquísimo. Además tienen un horno de leña en el que también hacen pizzas muy buenas.

El nº1 de Göreme en Tripadvisor. Destaca tanto por su cocina como por las vistas de su terraza aunque el precio es algo más alto.
📍İsali gaferli avcılar mahallesi / Kuran kursu sokak, belediyesi Arkası 11, Göreme
Aunque es más turístico que Firin Express y suele tener mucha afluencia a hora punta, entramos porque su carta era extensa y preparaban muy bien el testi kebab (con ritual en la mesa incluido). Probamos y todo nos encantó, especialmente el Testi y Adana kebab.

Un restaurante pequeño (aconsejable reservar), con comida casera abundante, menú de 3 platos, excelente servicio y buenos precios.

Estaba de camino al Sunset Point al lado de nuestro hotel y nos llamó la atención por lo bonito que era. Está bien para hacer un break de comida turca y tomar una hamburguesa (bastante buena) mientras escuchas buena música y también tiene rooftop.

Seguro que con tanta excursión os apetece parar un poco a descansar, tomar un café, disfrutar de las vistas o hacer algunas compras. Aquí van algunas recomendaciones para vuestros ratitos de tiempo libre…
Era uno de los bares que más visitábamos después del atardecer para tomar una Bomonti (nuestra cerveza preferida de Turquía) escuchando musica o viendo algún directo. Hay comida y se puede pedir para llevar.

En pleno mirador de Red Valley, es la típica terraza panorámica con columpios, cojines, bancos y vistas impresionantes del valle al atardecer o al amanecer.

Un bazar con muchas cosas curiosas: alfombras, joyas, piezas antiguas… Abre de 8h a 23h.

Nuestro sitio preferido para la hora del aperitivo! Con una terraza preciosa y buenas vistas, jarras de cerveza fresquita que servían en un plato individual con cacahuetes y música de fondo, un must.

Otro café bonito decorado con columpios y con buenas vistas para hacer una parada durante la caminata por el valle, cerca del mirador Panorama View.

La típica tienda de souvenirs en la que comprar calcetines con dibujos de globos muy chulos 😜.
📍 Hakki Pasa Meydani, Merkez Cami Yani, Göreme
Nos llamó la atención porque estaba dividido en varias plantas y última era tan alta que servía como mirador. Vale la pena parar y tomar un café para disfrutar de las vistas.
📍 Milli Sk.4, Göreme
Está en Ortahisar y tiene unas vistas muy bonitas del castillo.
📍 Ortahisar Köyü İç Yolu 5
Una preciosa tienda de alfombras donde puedes hacerte fotos increíbles en un decorado que parece salido de las 1001 noches pagando unos 10€ por persona (30 minutos). El dueño es muy amable y te hace sentir como en casa.

Reflexiones del viaje
Lo mejor: Capadocia me parece un lugar con único, diferente a cualquier otro sitio en el que haya estado antes, y tras haberlo visitado creo que es un imprescindible en Turquía. Me quedo sin duda con sus amaneceres salpicados de cientos de globos, la sensación de estar caminando como por otro planeta en sus valles, el encanto del pueblecito de Göreme y los preciosos cafés desde los que disfrutar de las vistas a las chimeneas.
Lo peor: quizás queda un poco lejos de Estambul y requiere dedicarle varios días, aumentando considerablemente el presupuesto del viaje (sobre todo si decidís subir en globo). Por otro lado, abro con vosotros un debate: ¿qué opináis de las empresas que ofrecen los vuelos en globo? A nosotros algunas no nos parecieron demasiado serias (jugaban con los precios con algunos turistas) y durante nuestra estancia hubo un incidente en el que tampoco hubo mucha transparencia. (Os leo en comentarios!)
Antes de visitar la Capadocia hubo gente que me comentó que no le dedicara mucho tiempo porque me terminaría aburriendo al no haber demasiadas cosas que hacer… espero con este post haberos podido reflejar lo mucho que ofrece y os aseguro que no os va a dar tiempo a aburriros! ¿Habéis ido ya a Capadocia? Why Cappadocia?
In my opinion, this destination is one of the trips you have to make at least once in your life: its landscapes, the experience of seeing the balloons flying over the rock formations at sunrise and how different it is from anywhere else in the world make it well worth adding some extra days to your trip to Turkey to see it. I think it is the perfect complement to Istanbul: an adventurous and «wild» contrast to a more cultural experience of the city.
Best time to travel
The best months to visit Cappadocia are May, June, September and October, when temperatures are warm enough for most activities (hiking, excursions, hot air balloon rides…). We went at the end of October and there were not too many people and the weather was perfect with temperatures between 16 and 22ºC. From November to March it’s quite cold, windy and often snowy (the scenery is beautiful and you won’t find many tourists, but the weather can play tricks on you), while in July and August temperatures can reach 35ºC during the day.
How to reach Cappadocia
This area is just over 750 km from Istanbul and can be reached from towns such as Göreme (the most common), Uçhisar or Ürgüp. We chose to fly from Istanbul to Nevşehir (the closest airport to Göreme) but there are other ways to get there:
Reaching Cappadocia by plane ✈️
There are two airports in Cappadocia: Kayseri (74 km/ 1 hour from Göreme) and Nevşehir (37 km/ 40 mins. from Göreme). The flight from Istanbul takes 1h15/1h30 (Turkish Airlines, Pegasus). If you book in advance it is very cheap (about 50€ return). Taxi to Göreme is around 40-50€, shared shuttle bus around 10-15€ (must be booked online in advance) and private transfer is 10€/person.
Reaching Cappadocia by car/ bus 🛣
You can hire a car at Istanbul airport for around €15 a day, but the distance is very long. If you prefer a car, it’s best to hire one when you arrive in Cappadocia. Buses are also available from Istanbul bus station as an option for overnight travel as the journeys are long (around 12 hours). If you plan your trip in advance, the flight will cost a similar price and you will save a lot of time.

Companies such as Civitatis organise 1-day or 4-day tours to Cappadocia from Istanbul, and Get Your Guide offers a 2-day tour with the option of a balloon ride. These options are quite convenient as they include everything: accommodation, meals and excursions to see the highlights of the area.
Facts about Cappadocia
Cappadocia is a region about 50km in diameter in central Anatolia and means ‘land of beautiful horses’ in Old Persian. Its characteristic landscape of valleys with sharp geological formations and small villages with houses nestled in the mountains is one of Turkey’s main attractions. Its ‘fairy chimneys’ can reach up to 50 meters high and secret underground cities are hidden beneath the ground. It has four provinces: Nevşehir, Kayseri, Aksaray and Nigde, and a population of less than one million.
Accommodation in Cappadocia
One of the best experiences in Cappadocia is undoubtedly staying in one of its characteristic cave hotels. These are lodgings carved into the mountainside with different types of rooms, including cave rooms with walls and ceilings made from the rock itself. In Cappadocia, the price of accommodation is affordable and there are some really cheap options, but bear in mind that it is crucial to choose the right location if you want to see the balloons from the front row (super highly recommended!).
In Göreme, the perfect accommodations to see them are those with terraces overlooking the Sunrise Point or strategic points in the balloon flights, these are a few examples:
If you prefer to stay outside Göreme, the Rupestral House in Uçhisar has a very nice terrace with good views of the baloons, and in Ürgüp a good option (with a swimming pool!) would be the Kayakapi Premium Caves.
Our hotel
We stayed at Elite Cave Suites Hotel after considering (a lot!) many alternatives and especially because of its location. Although the hotel was basic, the ability to almost touch the balloons from the window of our room was unbeatable and after our stay we realized that our experience would not have been as memorable in any other accommodation. It is just a few steps away from the main road, right in front of one of the best viewpoints in the valley (Sunset Point) and on its terraces (one with a nice swing) the balloons would pass within inches of us in the mornings. The price per night varies depending on the season between 55€/110€ with breakfast and we absolutely recommend it.

3 days are recommended to see the essentials, but if you are lucky enough to extend your time a little longer, here you have some more suggestions!

Love Valley
So called because of the «erotic» shapes of its rock formations, it is one of the most famous landscapes in Cappadocia. You can visit it at dawn because it is a place where you can see the balloons, walk along the paths of the valley and enjoy its cafes or viewpoints to observe the landscape from the heights. You can reach it on foot from Göreme in a walk of about 5 km/1h.
Zelve – Pasabag Archeological Site
Pasabag or Valley of the Monks is about 3km from Göreme and is easily accessible on foot (about 1 hour), by car or by bus. Entrance to the archaeological site is included in the museum pass and without the pass it is 280 TL per person including the Zelve Museum. This valley is an ideal place to start exploring the area as it is home to the famous Fairy Chimneys and St Simon’s Chapel with its three-pointed chimney. The Zelve Museum is an open-air museum open from 8am to 5pm, where you can walk through the reddish landscape and see ancient villages carved out of the rock. The whole visit (valley + museum) takes about 2 hours.
Devrent or Imagination Valley
It is about 4.5 km from the Zelve Museum and is known for its characteristic animal-like rock formations. You can cycle or walk around the area for an hour, admiring these shapes and imagining what they look like, hence the name.
Rose and Red Valleys
They are two adjoining valleys where it is very nice to see the sunset (and in the case of the Rose Valley also the sunrise, as it is a place where the balloons usually take off early in the morning). They have several walks of varying length and difficulty, and after the walk you can stop at one of their viewpoints to enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets in the area while having a drink (see info below).
Hot Baloon ride
Every day about 150 hot air balloons flying over Göreme. The hot balloon ride is an unforgettable experience to live in Cappadocia, although it is also impressive to see the balloons from the ground or from the terrace of your hotel. This activity can be booked in the village or online in advance, although in case of bad weather conditions there is a risk of cancellation the day before. The price varies according to the time of year, duration and number of passengers, but is usually between €200 and €280 for a pick-up (4-5am) and return to the hotel (8-9am), including breakfast while the balloons are being filled and a glass of champagne on landing.
Göreme and Open Air Museum
We found Göreme to be a charming place and the perfect base from which to visit Cappadocia. Its terraces, cafes and restaurants, small shops, walking paths and viewpoints are well worth taking the time to enjoy. Also in Göreme is the Open Air Museum, a complex of several rock-cut monasteries with impressive frescoes, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984. It’s an easy 15-minute walk from the village, open from 9am to 5pm, and admission is included in the museum pass or costs TL 150. It gets very crowded and there are often long queues to get in.
Pigeon Valley
It is so called because there are many pigeon holes carved into the rock of the mountain. It can be reached on foot from a road that starts in the south of Göreme called the Pigeon Valley Trailhead East. This trail starts just outside the town (Uzun Dere Street) and follows the canal to a signpost at the entrance to the valley, which takes about 1 hour to reach Uçhisar. Along the way you can see everything from old cave dwellings to ancient paintings, rock pillars and pigeons.
Uçhisar and the castle
The most visited place in Uçhisar is its castle, a citadel on top of a mountain with a unique view of Cappadocia (it is the highest peak in the area, over 1200 metres high), built by the Byzantines in the 7th century AD to stop Muslim troops. You have to climb 120 steps to get there, and if you want to see it from the inside (although the real highlight is the view), the entrance fee is 80 TL – not included in the museum pass. Uçhisar is a quiet village and many people choose it as a place to stay because it is cheaper than Göreme.
Kaymaklı and Derinkuyu underground cities
There are more than 36 underground cities in Cappadocia, but not all of them are open to the public. Of those that can be visited, Kaymaklı is the largest and dates back to 1300 BC (4 of its 8 levels can be visited), while Derinkuyu is the deepest (about 85 metres underground and 20 levels of which 8 can be visited). Both are connected by a 9km tunnel. They are open from 01/04 to 31/10 from 8.30am to 7pm and from 01/11 to 31/03 from 8.30am to 5pm on Sundays and the entrance fee is LT 30 each (included in the museum pass). Bring warm and comfortable clothing, non-skid shoes, and it is not recommended if you suffer from claustrophobia.
Sunset Point and viewpoints
Cappadocia is full of viewpoints and the most famous is Aktepe Hill (Sunset Point), from where you can see both the balloons that take off in the morning (they charge a symbolic entrance fee of less than €1 to go up) and a beautiful sunset. At the viewpoint there are small stalls selling drinks and fruit, and you can enjoy the view from swings or tables. In addition to Sunset Point, there is the Love Valley viewpoint, the Rose and Red Valley viewpoints, the Panorama Viewpoint in Göreme and many terraces with beautiful views (see below).
Other activities
If you have more days, you can also visit villages such as Çavusin (with its abandoned houses dug into the rock), Ürgüp (famous for its wines and lively nightlife, for its hamam and the Temenni Tepesi or Hill of Wishes), Ortahisar (the ‘little sister’ of Uçhisar, also with its own castle), Avanos (famous for its pottery) or Mustafapaşa (with its typical Greek buildings), visit the Twin Fairy Chimneys (next to Ürgüp, and with its own flea market) or go quad tour or horse riding at sunset6 sunrise.
Eating in Cappadocia
Cappadocia’s cuisine is based on mixtures of meat, vegetables and pulses cooked in clay pots, which give the dishes a distinctive flavour, as well as desserts and soups. Highlights include testi kebab (a Central Anatolian dish cooked in an earthenware jar with its own presentation ritual in which the jar is broken in front of the diner and the contents served on plates), meatballs, apricot stew, ağpağla dried beans, lentil soup or desserts such as çiğleme (a mixture of sugar, eggs, honey, butter, walnuts and hazelnuts), ceramic cheese or stuffed apricots.
Our favorite places to eat in Göreme:
We loved this small, authentic and cosy restaurant in the centre of Göreme, we tried the pides (delicious!!!), typical dishes, kebabs… the prices are very reasonable and everything was delicious. They also have a wood oven where they make very good pizzas.

Number 1 in Göreme on Tripadvisor. It stands out for both its cuisine and the views from its terrace, although the price is a little higher.

Although it is more touristy than Firin Express and tends to be very busy at rush hour, we went in because the menu was very extensive and the testi kebab was very well prepared (including a ritual at the table). We tried everything and loved it, especially the testi and adana kebabs.

It was one of the bars we visited most after sunset to have a Bomonti (our favourite Turkish beer) while listening to music or watching a live performance. Food is available and you can order to go.

Thoughts after the trip
The best thing: Cappadocia seems to me a unique place, different from any other place I have ever been to, and after visiting it I think it is a must in Turkey. I’ll never forget the sunrises dotted with hundreds of balloons, the feeling of walking through its valleys as if on another planet, the charm of the small village of Göreme and the beautiful cafes from which you can enjoy the view of the chimneys.
The worst thing: perhaps it is a bit far from Istanbul and takes several days, which increases the budget of the trip considerably (especially if you decide to go up in a hot air balloon). On the other hand, I would like to open a debate with you: what do you think of the companies that offer balloon flights? Some of them didn’t seem very serious to us (they played with the prices a lot) and during our stay there was an incident related to safety and there wasn’t much transparency either (I’ll read it in the comments!).
Before I visited Cappadocia, there were people who told me that I shouldn’t spend too much time there because I would end up getting bored as there aren’t too many things to do… I hope this post has shown you all that it has to offer and I can assure you that you won’t have time to get bored!
